Hello! Well I've not actually done that much just yet but I thought I'd get this started. The first leg of the journey was rather uneventful, good seat, good food and a good sleep so I was happy. Made a bit of an idiot of myself on the plane though. Got chatting to the woman next to me at the end of the flight and asked her if she was stopping in hong kong or continuing on. she was going to melbourne. Hearing this I may have begun to whoop and get rather overexcited, gushing about how great melbourne was, i'm sure she will love it, has she ever been before? I've been twice! and the second time was for 6 weeks so i feel i really know it well. To which she replied - 'actually i live there.' Plonker.
Arrived in Hong Kong airport which was a bit confusing and gigantic to say the least but I had 6 hours to spare so i did some window shopping (Prada, Gucci, Chanel don't really fall into my budget unfortunately!) and had a starbucks. Wasted some money on the internet machine which didn't work (apparently i typed the password in wrong for every single site i tried to access!) and relaxed in some amazing recliner seats. The next flight wasn't great - screaming child, freezing cold and they kept waking us up for food in the middle of the night which wasn't too much fun but hey, I survived and arrived in sunny cairns (22 degrees at 9am when i arrived! oh yes ... ) unfortunately after watching the carousel go round and round ... and round and round ... and everyone else had long gone, I faced reality and realised my rucksack had disappeared! when i asked at the desk it turned out it hadn't made its transfer in london (slow coach - even i made it and you know how slowly i walk!) so rather than my nice shower and changing into a clean set of clothes i ended up traipsing into town for some clean clothes and shampoo. i really muat have looked a state! However, cairns has not changed a bit since i was last here 4 years ago! I saw the pubs and clubs we went to, the juice bars, the weird hippy/flower/fairy shops (only in australia!) and the restaurants we went to for free food. i even managed to remember where the big shopping centre was so am rather chuffed with myself! Once i had some clean clothes i finally got my shower and had a wee cat nap, organised washing my clothes (seeing as placement starts tomorrow and i need something to wear!) and got settled in. The other girls in my dorm seem really nice, i had the themed buffet (asian tonight, aussie BBQ tomorrow) which cost a whole 3 pounds 60 for all you can eat. Planning to get an early night tonight as i start at the hospital tomorrow at 8.30 :( and then will hopefully have some more time for exploring! - oh and maybe some time to relax in the hammock by the pool - did i mention it was hot here???
