For years my friend George Luna has been inviting me to attend the Eastern Sierras Opener. Attending the opener is a family tradition that has carried on for 40 years. His family refers to the trip as Coopers Pescadores, named after one of the trips founding fathers and Georges Uncle who is no longer with us. Coopers spirit lives on with everything that goes on with the trip. Several generations of the family attend the event each year. I am honored to be invited and share the weekend at Lake Crowley with George and his family. The invitation was extended to my people as well. Bill and chad made the trip with me and little bro casey and cousin Trevor would meet us there. We began the trip up late Wednesday night making the 6 hour drive up. We got in line at the front gate along with several others so we could make sure to grab the family's spot when they opened. George and a portion of his family arrived just before they opened and we snagged the spot on waters edge. Today was a beautiful day, full of sunshine. We were soaking it up knowing we might have bad weather the rest of the weekend. Their family has this kind of thing down to a science from the way they have trailers delivered for everyone to the custom fabricated kitchen on wheels. The family got right to work making breakfast burritos for everyone and later 100s of tacos that Georges mom had prepared ( bomb)! We got a horse shoe tournament in ( winners Ismael and Roman) and enjoyed music and everyones company around the fire. Cant fish until Saturday, but having a great time leading up to the opening day. Enjoy some of the photos of day1.
