This year we are spending a week in Mammoth Lakes Ca with our friends the Hammings. This will be their first time in Mammoth so it looks like I will be playing cruise director:) We discussed leaving early to beat the traffic and the heat of driving through the desert and because the sunrise driving through the scenic by-way is TL's favorite. The morning started without a hitch! Everyone was up, half asleep but up and out the door by 3am. Met the Hamming's at the top of Cajon Summit and we were off. Now thats when the wheels started to fall off. The weather report said nothing about rain... On our way up we hit heavy rain and thunderstorms. Usually that would not have been a bad thing except that we took the doors and the top off of the jeep i was pulling. By the time we arrived in Bishop the jeeps interior was soaked and there was 3" of water on the floor board. Because of the storm there was no heat (good) but there was no sunrise for Tl either (very bad). After a quick bite at Jacks (recommended), we powered up Sherwin Grade into Mammoth. Before checking into our sites we did a bit of shopping, ranger station , tail waggers and RMCF. Much to our dismay it rained, hailed and thundered the rest of the afternoon. But life goes on and so will the trip. If it stops raining I will take a stab at fly fishing Lake Mary tonight.
