After this weekend I am in PAIN. We went camping a couple of hours outside of Wellington for a "bush walk" I have the scrapes and bruises to prove how bushy it was. On Friday night about thirty of us piled on a bus and drove thorugh the winding roads (reminded me of the sugar loaf hills in Main) of the outskirts of Welly, and arrived just in time to set up our flys and tents before it got dark. There were six in my group, and I ended up getting nice and cozy with two kiwi guys who kindly shared their two person tent with me. Fun playing sardines with people you have just met. Though by night two and after a few drinks we were best buds, mainly because every time they got me to repeat the word "sweater" they howled with laughter and made fun of me. (Here they say jersey) On Saturday we hiked on fairly flat surface for about 5 hours, making our way to our next campsite. The last time I did a type of bush walk I was in girl guides. It is a bit different with the tramping club. The guys in my group were holding up the rear and so we spent our sweet time while they chugged back some beer and stumbled their way to our next site. Very entertaining. Sunday morning we hiked for another five hours this time mostly uphill. My quads won't stop yelling at me. Luckily one of the boys paced himself with me while the other two basically ran their way up the mountain. I think I need to work out more- the most difficult thing is tramping with a pack on, it weighs you down! Although I am proud of myself for getting through it without too much problem. Thank you climbing! I couldn't really move out of bed for a day but now I feel great and am good to go for another round! This weekend is a lot more low key, I'm going bouldering for the day (which means low climbing without a rope) with some tramping kids, and then in a couple weekends we are doing a full on rock climbing trip about seven hours from here. Some of the trampers may be a bit eccentric but they sure know how to have a good time!
Ta for now! Miss you all!
