To all my wonderful friends and family:
A bit of a delay in my blogging! Been a whirlwind since I landed. I got into Auckland safe and sound after having not slept on my 14 hour flight. The one nice thing for people that CAN sleep on planes is since we landed at 6am, it was dark the whole way. Checked into a hostel, and then I spent most of the day sleeping. I did get to check out downtown a bit, and went to dinner on the waterfront which is beautiful. The next day I decided to go for a wander (it was either that or read the fourth book of Twilight) and I ended up at the harbour where they were offering a cruise to Devonport (named after the English town, they actually have a hotel once you get off the ferry that is a replica of one in Brighton, which I have seen!) The bus went up to Mount Victoria which gave stunning views of Auckland and the surrounding area. On the tour bus, two girls, one from Scotland and one from Holland, took my under their wing. Angela a very young 32 year old Scot on holiday from living in Aussie, and already has taken the role of mothering me, which I need! She is my backbone for making good decisions:D Susan is 23 and we've all become good friends. We went out last night for Angela's birthday, after a fun day on Waiheke Island (it means the waterfall in Maori though no one seems to know where this waterfall is) It was an incredible island about a 45 minute ferry ride from Auckland, which you could see in the distance. We stopped on the beach and spent the afternoon getting some sun. It is Waitangi weekend, which celebrates a peace treaty between the Maori and New Zealanders. Lots of things going on, cheap events etc! I am staying in Auckland tonight, doing a bus tour tomorrow, then off to Wellington on Wednesday. Looking forward to getting settled into a flat!
That is all for now, pictures are to come!!
