So I haven't actually left the country yet but I decided to blog a little early to let you know what is going on in my life. Wow, I've been gone two weeks already? This feels like my last stop, I can't believe that in just over a week I'll be on the other side of the world. In the sun! For those that are not sure of my travel plans, I leave for New Zealand on the 4th of February and arrive in Auckland on the 6th. They are 18 hours ahead of Toronto, and 21 from Vancouver..almost a full day. If I stay there for the rest of my life I will live an extra day! Maybe I can somehow work into celebrating New Years twice.. anyways I'm going to spend a few days in Auckland with some friends (Cynthia included, a friend from Queen's who is also going to my school) then head down to Wellington for the 15th. My frosh week is the same time as reading week for Queen's. In this time I have to get a student visa, find a place to live, choose my courses and settle in. Then I have a week before classes start on March 1st. Exciting!
Big news: Matt and Reena's third arrived yesterday (the 25th) at 1:00. My second niece! (For those that don't know Matt is my brother. His other two kids are 6 and 4) It's a girl! 8 lbs 10 oz. She is beautiful, although I find most babies look alike. She is nameless at the moment..so if anyone can offer a good name that they choose there will be a prize! Not actually, but thanks to you we can stop calling her Girl. We're taking bets on whether she will be white or asian looking. Reena is half chinese and Taya looks quite asian. Reena thinks Girl looks more like Caleb as a baby..she is so excited to have a white girl!
It's sunny finally! The first week I was here there was thick fog all across campus. Finally the skies turned blue and the mountains made their appearance. If you have never been out West you need to change this. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in Canada. It is the first time in 4 years all of my siblings and I have been together, and then mom got here on Friday. So crazy that it worked out that all of us except Dad were here for the birth. Nice little family reunion, and Caleb and Mataya are the cutest kids on earth. Though I think Taya prefers Blaine, my younger sister..she is kind of mean to me.
Okay that's my update, I'm looking forward to my trip and will post pictures as soon as I can. Miss you all and would love to chat on skype so add me! kallan.lyons :) If you don't have skype ask me what it is..no need for long distance phone calls!
Good luck with midterms and whatever you may be doing, more to come as I head to the land of kiwis and beached whales
