26.5 miles in 9.5 hrs. walked today. It was a long one in the afternoon sun. Upon arrival I splurged for a private room with a private bath. Only 30 euros. What a treat!
There was a festival in Logrono where I originally thought I'd stay. There were hundreds of people in the squares, so I knew it would be loud and crazy at night. It was difficult finding the route out of the city since people filled the streets and were standing on the signs. Ten kilometers later I'm in a small town partway through tomorrow's hike. I've completed over 100 miles.
Hot shower, real towels, and no men in the bathroom or snoring tonight.
Every day I'm impressed by the kindness of strangers. An old woman in a market went out of her way to show me what I had to do to weigh and get a ticket for an apple. Neither of us spoke the same language but we sure understood each other.
Today, for the first time, my body feels sore. At the same time I can feel myself getting stronger. I'm figuring out how to find good food that fits with being a vegetarian. There are these roasted red peppers that are amazing. I'm in the Rioja region of Spain known for its vineyards, specifically red wine. I just had a glass with tapas, and I'm ready to rest. Somehow walking around these steep medieval towns is less attractive after hiking all day with a heavy pack.

Susan Enjoy that private room.... you certainly earned it after 26 miles!
Neil Congratulations on your century! The physical exertion required to do what you are doing must be astonishing, and I can especially appreciate the challenges of vertical movement, even on the downhill side of things. Take care of yourself and enjoy.
robin sounds like a lovely end to challenging but exciting day. hope you got some more bars by now!!! don't want you blowing away if there is a big gust of wind!!! be safe.
