Kim's Travels
So to celebrate Tom's birthday we went to a great little Thai seafood restaurant where the food was fantastic. I had smoked whole seabass with ginger and Tom had glass noodles with mixed seafood - it was brilliant. On our meander back home we passed a Jeep rental place and for some stupid reason unbeknown to me, we hired it. We handed over 800 baht to the little Thai man in his dodgy restaurant and Tom gave in his driving lisence. As you can imagine I was seriously freaking out as soon as we step foot in it; "are you sure this is a working vehicule?", "do you think this is legal?", "Tom, I really don't want to die". Once Tom had shut me up we decided to drive to Haad Rin for a birthday drink - which I can tell you I seriously needed by the time we had finished the drive! So yet again we chilled on the beach, drinking Pina Coladas and watching films before heading back to the good old Hansa Resort. This morning we got up bright and breezy ready to explore the island on our trusty (?!) jeep. We chose to drive over to the Than Prapee Waterfalls. I started the journey pretty calm but by about the 5th minute I was a complete nervous wreck. Once we had got off the main road it turned to awful terrain; bumps, rubble, steep hills, rocks everywhere - I really was hanging on for dear life. I didnt think I was going to see my family again. Ever. Anyway, we kept following the signs and eventually rocked up at... a dead end. Yup, thats right, A DEAD END. I couldnt believe our luck. We got out of the car (I was still shaking by this point!) and walked down yet mor dodgy terrain until we found our selves in the middle of the jungle, the grass was chest high. I had a bit of a sense of humour failure and made the executive decision that we were leaving straight away as there was quite obviously no bloody waterfall. We climbed all the way back up to the top again and I had to reluctantly revisit our Fraser Island days as there was no toilet anywhere and I was sheer desperados. So we started the journey back on the main and road; I was trying to 'enjoy' the ride this time since I thought, seeing as we've made it down here surely we'll be alright going back... Evidently, not. After I had just started to feel a little bit more relaxed, we stalled. On a massive great big hill. Tom reveresed back down the hill and warned me he was going to have to go pretty quick to try and get up it. I held on for dear life and before I knew it I was being thrown around the 4x4 and screaming all sorts of obscenities. The steering had somewhat over compensated and had very nearly crashed us right into two huge boulders. Then, I freaked. I had had a bad feeling about it ever since we picked up the damn vehicule and I desperately wanted to get home in once piece. Tom attempted to calm me down and I managed to contain myself all the way back. My God it was an agonising drive but... WE MADE IT! After that horrendous experience we drove back to Haad Rin for a small shopping extravaganza. I spent way too much money and Tom pushed the boat out with the purchase of two pairs of boardies. Shock horror! After a bite to eat and yet more ludacrus shopping in Thongsala we drove around to see if we could find some interesting temples or something (no such luck, just annoying wild dogs) and returned our jeep. With pleasure I might add. I had a look around a funky opticians but swiftly decided to keep my wallet safely zipped up as Mum informed me I WAS OVERDRAWN! Am seriously upset as I was looking forward to my shopping spree in Bangkok but as they say "anythings possible" and I'm sure I'll sort something out ;) So dear friends we're just about to go back to our bungalow and start sorting stuff out for tomorrow we begin the journey back to smellykok! And that means... I'M NEARLY HOME! Hurray, only 3 days!
