Kim's Travels
Well after updating yesterday we settled ourselves in another funky little place on the beach in Haad Rin and watched a film/read our books etc... After a little meander up the main road we found somewhere to have dinner and I managed a Thai Green Curry - hurrah, I'm very proud. We went back on to the beach and wondered up to the "Mountain Bar" - a cool higglty-pigglty place in the rocks where we had a drink over looking the sea. When we enquired about the drinks list they told us they had a special that night... Mushroom smoothies... We passed. Anyway today we chilled chilled and chilled until we could chill no more under the hot hot sun. It was really beautiful today, the sun was out and the sky was clear blue. So after lunch we braved the walk into Thongsala which was actually really pretty. After passing by a rather strange market where there were flies all over the meat and only about two stalls we brought some fruit (our hotel doesnt have any fruit, yoghurt, water or anything... very strange) for brekkie and then we wandered into Thongsala. We passed a supermarket that sold loads of English stuff too which I was quite excited by (travelling does peculiar things to you). Anyway we reached Thongsala and were slightly disappointed! We'd walked for about an hour only to find a reletively small, non-descript town. We think it is where most of the actual Thai people hang out as opposed to Haad Rin which I guess is a little more touristy. So we walked around for a bit and then caught a taxi in to Haad Rin, of course waiting half an hour in the process as the taxi drivers here won't take you anywhere unless theres as many people as possible rammed into the back of the pick up trucks! So we started the journey (trying extremely hard not to be suffocated by the black, deadly looking fumes the vehicule was exhaling. Anyway we realised we'd missed quite a bit of Thongsala and decided we'd come back to check it out properly. Once we arrived in Haad Rin we settled our little selves on the beach once again for dinner. We experimented with "No Name" (a dish that is all over the menus here) and discovered it was simply deep fried stuff. Lovely. So after sampling yet more curries we made our way over to the outside cinema on the beach (omg how chilled can this place get - brilliant!) and watched The Sixth Sense, among the rugs, cushions, candles, cocktails, sand and ocean! We stupidly forgot our mozzie repellant to decided to toodle back to Ban Tai to avoid being eaten alive. We went through the taxi palava again and desperatley tried to ignore the buzzing sparks of electricity that were spouting off over our heads!
