Kim's Travels
WOOHOO! Guess what I did today...?! A SKYDIVE! Yup, I threw myself out of a plane from 14,000 ft and it was absolutely bloody amazing. I had to get up really early to be picked up and taken to Mission Beach which is where I was going to do it. It was a 2 hour journey and surprisingly I wasn't really nervous (!) We arrived at the office and had to hang around for a quite a while. We watched some skydivers land and then it was our turn. The preparation was all pretty swift and my partner Igor was really funny. He ran through everything with me, which was pretty simple - arch yourself like a banana and thats it! So up in the plane we went - I was pretty excited mainly because it was a pink plane! Anyway, we were snuggly packed into the plane and our partners started clipping everything together. The dude infront of me was the one with the dial that told us how high we were. It finally sunk in that I was actually going to jump out of this thing and I had no choice about it. We were slowly creeping up and I thought we were pretty high; only to find out we were at 14,000 ft: we had 10,000 more to go! So finally Igor said we were ready to go and opened the flimsy perspex door that I was sitting next to. I was really surprised at how quickly it happened; he told me to dangle my legs off the edge, I smiled at the camera and off I went! The freefall was amazing, so different to the bungy, we just kept going and going. I was right above the ocean and could see the great barrier reef, the coast, the islands, the palm trees, everything, it felt like I could see forever!! Finally the 60 second freefall ended and the parachute opened. It was quite a pull actually which was unexpected. The next part was fab; I was floating, floating, floating, and taking in the view - I LOVED IT! Finally we started to get near landing (when I was getting seriously concerned; I thought we were going to land in the sea!) but got back safe and sound on the beach, it was BRILLIANT! We chilled on the beach for a bit and then headed back. Both Tom and I are a little ill today so we're gunna take it easy tonight in preparation for our trip to Cape Tribulation tomorrow!
