Kim's Travels
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! We caught the Oz Bus to Kroombit today - a cattle ranch in the middle of nowhere; I can't explain how remote this place is; we drove for two hours and didn't see A THING. NOT ONE SINGLE THING. Anyway we arrived at Kroombit at about 1430 and it was really surreal. We checked into our little stable-like-rooms and were taken up the road for our cattle-station-activities! On the way up we were speaking to one of the girls who works there; she lives in the nearest town (one hour away) where there are 26 houses, 1 post office, 1 shop, 1 hairdressers, 1 pub and... SHE'S RELATED TO EVERYONE... EW... HOW GROSS IS THAT?! Anyway, I got to have ak go clay pigeon shooting (which I was crap at - managed to miss all of them!), catching a goat (yes, I was chasing one goat in a pen of about 50 trying to grab it by the horns and hold it to the ground) and lassooing a goat. It was kinda crazy! It was really cool thought and all of them were a lot harder than expected. We went back to the station and I had a shower and when I got out I had the biggest surprise ever! Alex and Naomi had organised for balloons, ribbons, decorations and everyone was waiting for me for my birthday - it was so so sweet of them. They cracked open some Giggle Juice for me. We chilled by the fire and then had supper (beef!) and then... I GOT ANOTHER SURPRISE! CAKE AND MORE GIGGLE JUICE TO CELEBRATE! They turned out all the lights and I got to blow out the candles and everything. Next, I had to go on the Bucking Bronko first and managed to last all of 2 seconds (litterally)! They guy running it then gave us a lesson on breaking the sounds barrier - cracking a whip. I stupidly managed to whip myself and now have marks on my wrist! Somehow, I don't think living on a cattle station is my kinda thing... We spent the rest of the night playing games around the fire and then headed to bed. It was an AWESOME night and definatly a birthday I won't forget in a long, long time to come. I LOVED IT!
