Kim and Hayley's Excellent Adventure
Sea Urchins
Hello to you all
Firstly....'No'we didn't see the stones in Rio... although we would have liked to... but we kept the britishness alive and were found infront of a big screen tv singing, dancing and drinking beer..... rock on....... a little scary for the israelies we were with.... but all good fun though....
Well we finally left Itacare... i say finally as we sent the Aussies who we were staying with and a long story short the bought the wrong tickets so after we all got up extra early and packed and we all had little-large headaches we hiked to the bus station to find our bus had left and the boys had bought the wrong tickets so our 8am bus turned into 10pm bus.... needless to say we wern't all that happy....
Anyways we arrived in Salvador 12 hours later...... (the flight to New Zealand should be easy now)
Anyways, the boys had some friends in Salvador and we could have gone with them but after shairing a toilet between 4 aussies we soon clocked onto two girls who could speak the lingo (actually we are getting really good at hooking onto lingo speaking travellers) and decided to travel with them for a little while....
So we arrived in Salvador... tired to say the least but we headed straight to the beach, to top up our tans.... well kim has a tan... and .. well... i'm still holding true white.... hummm..
Anyways after sweltering in the heat i jump into the sea only to find the only Sea urchin around... yes thats correct and not content with treading on it with one foot i pushed off it with the heal of my other foot as well.... so good ole Kimmy had to do some DIY tweaser and needle action when we got back to get the spikes out of my feet!!!! great!!! Sorry i didn't tell you before mum, didn't want you to worry!!!
Anyways, then next day we sat on a very lovely beach... i was banned from the water.. so i had to endure the brazillian men running up and down the beach in .... yep thats right... speedos..... oh the agony!!!
Moving along......
we then headed into town the next day so that Kim could buy some more beads... and we could sample the old historic part of Salvador... It was so pretty and full of colour.... us being us soon sought out a procession of singing dancing and drumming and decided to join in!!!! It was great funny dancing through the old cobbled streets with locals......
We even went to see some more Capoiera..... men doing the dancing fighting thing, and yep... got picked to do some very wiggly hip dancing with some very sweaty men..... enough said
Moving along....
we then watched some more of the procession and headed home.....
So Sunday we left Salvador... sad as many of our friends are staying there for Carnival, but they had a leaving party for us on the saturday evening... and i think we left them in good spirits to continue well into carnival.....
So another 12 hour bus journey and we arrived in Recife... where we did plan to stay for the night, but... after clocking some Israelies.... who always speak some lingo and always get the cheapest deals around we decided to travel onto Olinda...... which is in the little picture up the top!!!
Its really pretty hear and really old.... aparently Carnival is really authentic here and full of more locals than the one in Salvador or Rio.... plus we are only paying 2 pounds a night to stay in a cool bohemian hostel which is full of music... and we are sleeping in either hammocks or on the floor... so you could say we are the bargin hunters of the year and also turning into hippies......
Anyways, we still cant believe it has almost been a month since we left you all and are really sorry about the lack of phonecalls....which we are still trying to figure out as everytime i try to call there is a little portuguese lady who says something like Sorry... blah blah blah... please... blah blah... so as soon as i figure out the blahs i'm sure we will be able to contact you.....
Anyways we plan to saty here for a few days to see carnival and then head up North to Praia da pipa for my birthday where kim has assured me she will make a cup of tea... which we are struggling without....
Anyways
Love to you all and take care
Also thank you all for the great comments on the webpage....... we will get the photo's on soon... however as we can't manage to use the phones.... the computer and photos might take a little longer!!
Take care
Kim and Hayley
