Wednesday 28th March
We arrived in Nelson yesterday which is a cute little town around the size of Llandudno. We stay at a lovely hostel called Honeysuckle House which has a really comfortable feel to it. The lady who runs it has booked us on a horse riding trek so we trot off up there this morning (excuse the pun).
We meet Susan who is our guide. I'd guess she was in her late 30's. She comes from the Channel Islands and used to be a merchant banker but gave it all up in 2001 to move out here. She introduces me to Harry, a gorgeous white thoroughbred who has a real spring in his step. Simon gets on Magic who is a sensible rotund chestnut brown horse with an adorable nature. He likes to scratch his head on people's backs which I find very funny when he does this against Susan.
We head out for a few hours and get some wonderful views from the tops of the mountain. I really enjoy horse riding more and more each time I do it. We also get to help out after the ride is over with brushing the horses down, but not before they've rolled around in the dust to get the sweat off themselves.
Then comes my next treat of the day - I'm going for a haircut! First one since I left home. Aaah, blissful. Cheap too! I swan out of the hairdressers doing my best "just walked out of a salon" hair flick and it promptly starts to rain. Hee hee.
