Saturday 21st July
I arrive to stay with Caroline and David for the weekend. They live in Freemantle which is a short drive outside of Perth. My trusty perpetual raincloud has followed me and it's pouring down. Apparently it was lovely earlier on in the week!
Charlie has grown up so much and is still as gorgeous as ever. When Caroline announces that we're going for brunch in town, he pipes up "Latte for Mummy." Just priceless. Then he added that he wanted a chocolate milk. How funny.
We walk the dog on the beach. It's completely deserted - I can't understand why more people aren't here enjoying the view. We laugh as Charlie gets chased by the waves and the dog gets exhausted from diving in and out of the sea chasing a stick.
We spend a lot of the afternoon lounging around staying out of the rain, looking through Caroline's photo's of South America. It's fantastic to get her insight into the countries I will visit. It also helps me decide what I want to do when I'm there.
Sunday 22nd July
Having bought lots of food from the great organic supermarket they have in Freemantle, we spend the morning preparing food for the BBQ. It's raining again but hey - we're british - that's not going to stop us having a BBQ. Plus the house Caroline and David live in has a huge covered veranda. The guests arrive and the rain holds off while the food is cooked.
Monday 23rd July
I babysit Charlie who is as good as gold for me while David nips into work and I wish Caroline a sad farewell. Charlie and I play with his new train, eat our porridge together and watch Ice Age. What more could you want at 2 years old! In the afternoon we walk the dog again and come back looking like we had stood under the shower! Then David runs me to the airport with promises that we'll stay in touch on Skype.
