So this entry is a bit after this actually happened so bear with me if the details aren't totally perfect. We left Cheltenham in the pouring rain, go figure. We were more than happy to get away from that for a few days. The plane ride went lovely, but it was 4 hours long, not totally ideal but we were going to Greece, who can complain? We has arranged the owner of our hotel to pick us up from the airport. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit sketched out when we rode back in his old school car.
I was basically on the verge of tears from how happy I was. The drive was the first glimps of Santorini and I was already sold on the place. We got to the hotel and the nice man, who we ended up calling dad, carried our stuff to our room. We had the top room with the nicest view facing the beach. Is wasn't huge but it nicely fit all of us. The first night the owner told us to walk down the road to a restaurant he knows well. I guess we walked past it and ended up at some place with a dead octopus hanging up...nice. I decided to branch out a bit and order shrimp. I really couldn't eat a bite because they still had eyes and their little legs. Seriously, just cut those things off and then bread it. Anyways, I ate some of Louise's food and she took some shrimp that I literally couldn't eat. I think the guy knew I didn't like it and then gave us free dessert. They were sort of fried doughballs with chocolate and honey on them. Not too shabby but I'm happy we didn't pay for them.
The next morning we woke up to experience our first breakfast that was included in our hotel. We had some bread (our favorite), hard boiled eggs, ham, and cheese. We also had coffee and this juice that wasn't exactly orange juice but it was yummy!!! We then just spent the day on the beach, you know the one right in front of our hotel. =] Because our hotel was not set up on the beach, we went to the restaurant next door. As we were laying out, the nice bartender, whom we named Scottie came over and asked if we would like anything to drink. We declined but said we perhaps would get one later. Within a few hours we decided to take him up on the offer and got strawberry daquaris. Nothing beats chilling on the beach with a cold drink. We did not get anymore that night but eventually went to shower to get ready for dinner.
We actually went to the place our hotel owner suggested and it was lovely! We bought this dessert called baclava and oh my gosh, it was the best stuff ever. Seriously, I would love to have some of that again. There was not much to do around our hotel because we weren't in a main city but that was perfectly okay with all of us. We sat on our balcony and just hung out. There is not much better than sitting on a balcony in Santorini looking at the stars as you can hear the sea.
We had already inquired with our owner about getting ATVs for the next day. So keep reading to figure out how that went!
