Once again the day started out with breakfast. It's not filling like the breakfasts we would have in Ireland, but it did its job. We were ready to hit the road as we were to make our longest journey yet, which was only about a 30 minute drive. We drove through Fira on the main road. Once again we saw breathtaking views along the caldera. We pulled off on the side of the road again when we saw a view that we could not pass up. It was a windy day and as i tried to use the self timer, the wind blew the camera off the ATV and we decided it was time to get back on the road. Our first stop was to what we thought was Amoudi Bay. We had planned to cliff jump, but we had the wrong place. On the plus side, every wrong turn in a new discovery! We literally stood in the same spot where The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants was filmed! We were so so happy!!! It was just one more breathtaking sight we were blessed enough to see.
We drove a bit futher and saw a sign for a beach so we headed that way in hopes of finding the cliffs to jump off of. Well, we didn't find that. We did find the beach and decided to lay out a bit. I should mention that these beaches don't really have sand, but rocks. They range from giant stones to tiny rocks that can get stuck under your fingernails. And they are hot, soooo hot. We kind of stuggled to get down to this beach because it is down a hill full of rocks. We laid out for awhile and because of the tiny rocks, we had to clean off in the water. The water that was freezing cold with huge waves that brought even more rocks (I'm not kidding, they were every where). We did our best to get cleaned up but it didn't turn out that great. We got back on our mode of transportation and went more into the town.
Believe it or not but we were starving. We park and look at this gyro shop. Oh my gosh, it was fantastic! I got it with pork and loved it. There were even tomatos and onions on it and usually I would decline that, yes I am branching out. After that, we had to get gelato, duh. After we had eaten too much, we went to wander around town. Little did we know we were about to stumble upon the most iconic and prettiest part of Santorini.
We mostly saw the white buildings with blue domes on top. As we were literally just walking around on the paths that weave in and out of houses, we turned and saw what were on our postcards. I was living a postcard on a beautiful day! I had gone speechless, and most of you know that never happens to me. I can't explain to you how lucky and blessed I felt at that moment. I was doing, at 21, what people only dream of doing. And that will always blow me away.
Anyways, after that we went shopping out and about. There was a giant group of people that came off a cruise ship so it got rather crowded and rather annoying. After being away from big groups of people, I got used to the silence and solidarity. We headed back shortly after that to our hotel due to needing a serious shower. Rocks were everywhere in that bathroom.
Santorini is famous for its sunsets by the caldera, so we drove our happy selves over there for dinner. We missed the best part of it, go figure, but we saw the ending which was still amazing. We didn't get anything free that night, which was a bit upsetting but the meal was still delicious. I did a pretty good job picking meals after that first night!
Obviously we drove back to the hotel and sat on the balcony once again!
