The weather was gorgeous on the boat. The best it had been - woohoo! We had a few beers and chilled out on the top deck looking at the gorgeous islands we passed. I took millions of photos - I had to it was so beautiful!
We arrived at our next island where we were staying at 'Korovou Eco-Tour Resort'. It was set in a little bay and looked lovely. Again the staff sang to us as we approached the island in the transfer boat. We were greeted on the island by the Fijian women and a little girl was giving us all flowers for our hair. Her name was 'Va' and she was so cute!
After a fresh orange juice and a quick briefing about the island we were taken to our rooms. All we had to do was point out our luggage and someone would carry it to our room for us. We were not allowed to carry any of our own luggage!!!
We had a beachfront Bure - WOW, it was amazing. Right on the edge of the beach, what more could you want! We dumped our stuff and went straight onto the beach for a waunder around the bay as the sun was setting. I met a little girl that lived in the Fijian village on that island. She ran over and spoke to Marisa and I in Fijian and gave us a shell. I then played on the sand with her and spoke to her but she only spoke Fijian. She chased me along the beach and even gave me some hugs - aww, I wanted to take her home!
The boys we met at the last resort were on the same island as us again so we met them for tea and all sat together. Then we were entertained by the Fijians - they were showing us their traditional dance and sang some songs for us. Then it was our turn to be taught the dance. A few of us got up to make idiots of ourselves, got the photos to prove it!
It was a wicked night full of drinking, drinking games, laughs, music, card tricks and then a fully clothed swim in the pool!!! So much fun!
The next morning it was an early rise as we were going on the 'village visit'. I was dead excited as we were going to be greeted and entertained by the school children and then they were taking us around their school. I was hoping to talk to the teachers about setting up pen pals with my class - how ace would that be. The Fijian children only speak and write in English at school. They are punished for using their own language during school times and so they are very good at English!
However, there were mostly guys on the island with us and they all wanted to go snorkelling so unfortunately there were not enough people to go on the village visit. I was totally gutted!!!!!!! I knew I still had a village visit as part of my trip nearer the end of the week but I was upset because I wouldn't be able to go into the school as it would be on a weekend! Looked like it was going to be a day of sunbathing instead!
We watched a 'coconut' presentation. It was fascinating. They guy showed us how to peel the coconut and then slice it open, whilst giving us facts about how they use coconuts. Once the coconut was sliced, coconut juice came out. We were able to taste it, it was weird. It didn't have much of a coconut taste! Then he shredded the coconut out of the shell which was pretty cool to see. He then squashed the shredded coconut together and that made coconut milk! We were all given a taste of that too, it was much nicer!
That night after tea we were shown a fire dancing routine. It was ace! Then it was an early night for us - last night had really taken its toll!
The next day the weather was boiling. We managed to play about on the beach and get in a good few hours of sunbathing before we were collected at 2pm for our transfer to our next island………..
