We jumped on the boat at 2pm and picked the best seats on the top deck to do some sunbathing. We grabbed a few beers and enjoyed the 4 hour boat trip to our next island.
We arrived at ‘Bounty Island’ and checked into our Bure. To be honest we were a little disappointed with this island as it was more expensive to stay on and we had expected it to be more luxurious than the other two!
We arrived quite late so we took four steps from our Bure and stepped onto the beach. The sun was setting so we just had a quick walk and took some lovely photos. It was then time for tea and it was delish!!! It was basically a BBQ, it was so nice to have something different from rice! It was then across to the bar for happy hour where we got vodkas for 70p and then an early night.
The next morning we got up dead early as we had a sailing trip planned and also wanted to walk around the island. We started with breakfast and the views from our table were amazing! Imagine eating breakfast with your bare feet in the sand, looking over the blue sea and being heated by the rising sun!
We then walked around the island. It took us 20 minutes altogether to walk around the whole island! This is the island where ‘Celebrity Love Island’ was filmed so we were excited to find out all the info. We managed to find out that the island was hired for 6 months and no tourists were allowed to visit the island during this time. The set was built on the other side of the island to where we were staying and once the show had finished the set was dismantled. The pool however was brought around to the ‘tourist’ side of the island so the pool we swam in was the one from the show! There were pictures up of the celebs that had been on the show and some of the staff told us stories about meeting them. All the men were in love with Kelly Brooke!
After our walk we packed our things and waited for our transfer boat for our sailing trip.
We were booked onto the ‘Seaspray Sailing Adventure’ and it was such an amazing trip. Firstly we sailed to the island where Tom Hanks filmed ‘Castaway’ and we were able to spend about 2 hours there. It was out of this world – so beautiful. Soft white sand and crystal clear water. Marisa and I snorkelled from the island back onto the boat, wow! The fish were so colourful and much different to the ones I saw when I snorkelled in Australia. Unfortunately our snorkelling was cut short as we both suddenly felt as though we had been stung. We looked around for jellyfish but couldn’t see anything. Both of our bodies were stinging from head to toe so we swam as quickly as we could to the boat. We got out of the water to see millions of read dots all over us. The captain told us that we had been stung by ‘sea lice’, yuk!!! Why didn’t they tell us the water was full of sea lice???? I wouldn’t have went in if I knew that! One of the crew came running with vinegar for us and we poured it all over our bodies – aagggghh, it was so soothing! Thankfully the stinging stopped after an hour or so and the red spots had died down.
After a scrumptious lunch and lots of free champagne and wine we then headed to an island where we were going to do a village visit. Our first stop was on the beach where we were told a little bit about the island and were given some rules to follow. It was a Sunday so the village was quieter than usual. Our first stop was at the village Primary School. I was able to peek through the open windows and have a look. The school had a computer/library room which had been built recently due to the money that had been made from the making of ‘Castaway’. It was nothing like the computer/library areas we have at home!
Then we walked through the village to look at where the Fijians lived. There were lots of children around and they were constantly shouting ‘Bula’ and waving at us. The adults were all napping in their gardens and I actually felt quite bad walking through their village taking photos!! It didn’t feel right.
It was then a 2 hour sail back to where we started to catch the ‘Yasawa Flyer’ back to the main land. We sunbathed and topped ourselves up with the free alcohol! Before we left the boat, the crew gave a lovely speech and sang their farewell song. Again, tears were formed!!!!! They are just such lovely people and so well cultured. Out of all the countries I have visited the Fijians are the only people who have said ‘Where about in Scotland are you from?’ or ‘I love your Scottish accent’ or ‘You must be from Scotland’. Everyone else I have met has always assumed that I’m Irish or Swedish!!!!!!!! How annoying!
The ‘Yasawa Flyer’ only took about 40 minutes to get back to the Marina on the main land. The sun was setting and it was beautiful, perfect way to end the day. We met up with the boys we had spent time on two of the islands with and arranged to meet for tea.
Marisa and I went back to the hostel we had stayed in on the first night in Fiji. We checked in, showered and then got a taxi into town to meet the boys. We had tea at ‘Hard Rock Café’. Can you believe there is a Hard Rock in Fiji!!!!!
After tea, the boys came back to our hostel for a few drinks at the bar and then it was time to say goodbye as the boys were leaving in the morning for New Zealand. That night myself, Marisa and two of our room mates had to play our ipods in order to get to sleep as one guy in our room was snoring sooooooooooo loudly. Nightmare!
The next day Marisa and I did a little chilling by the pool and chatted about Fiji. We had such an amazing time and were quite upset that our time on Fiji was up! I could have easily spent a month just travelling the ‘Yasawa Islands’. I would love to come back here at somepoint!
I then showered, had some tea with Marisa and then left for the airport. I flew back to New Zealand and spent one night in the hostel where I had stored my luggage while I was in Fiji.
The next day I was back at the airport for my flight to Los Angeles.
