Our last evening meal out in Prague was at a restaurant with a mediaeval theme. We walked down a long staircase into a series of rooms which were made up to look as though they were straight out of the Middle Ages. The meal was served warm but with certainly no warmth. The waitress looked as though she wanted to be anywhere but serving us.
The starter was a broth with lumps of potato in. Many of us, in pursuit of carbohydrates attacked the bowls of bread with gusto. It was fairly standard fare for the main with dumplings floating in a meat and pumpkin sauce. The dessert was useless to anyone with a nut allergy.
The most interesting moment came when Mr Smith contested the waitress' decision to impose a 12% service charge on the bill. He was directed to her supervisor who, in keeping with the theme of the restaurant, was presumably a Sherrif or Lord of the Manor. Mr Smith played the trump card when, having won the battle to leave a tip at his discretion he did, indeed, at his discretion leave the amount they had initially imposed.
