Today was the last day of our stay in Japan. We got up at around 8am and finished stuffing our bags before having our last breakfast of soup, toast and tea at the hostel.
We had decided to move our bags to Tokyo station first thing in the morning and then spend the rest of the day re-visiting Shinjuku and Shibuya. Luckily it was a Saturday so the trains weren't as crowded as during the week and we were able to take our bags to Tokyo station without too much hassle. It was a bit of a search to find lockers but once we stumbled across locker city we were pleased to find some large ones that fit Shannon's suitcase.
We then took the train to Shibuya where I bought some last minute gifts for my family and where we had one last go at the drumming game at the arcade.
We also stopped for a coffee and croissant at Choco Cro, the last of the trip. *sad face* It was funny actually because Shannon said "hey, you want to stop and get a coffee somewhere?" and I was a bit hesitant. Knowing my weaknesses, Shannon added "how about if we see a Choco Cro?" and I heartily agreed. In the next moment (and I mean the next moment, basically as soon as I said yes) we turned our heads and saw a Choco Cro. It was like Tokyo wanted us to have the perfect last day! We thoroughly enjoyed our cafe lattes and fresh from the oven chocolate croissants before reluctantly heading back out to the streets.
We caught the train to Shinjuku and went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Building where you can go up to the 40th floor for free and enjoy the views, Skytree eat your heart out. It was again a beauitful clear day and we were even able to catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji, very faintly in the distance. The Skytree stood out above the other buildings and you could really see just how big Tokyo is.
For lunch we had one more bowl of CocoIchi and then strolled around the streets of Shinjuku.
Finally we decided it was time to head back to Tokyo station and then from there to Narita airport. It's about an hour's journey and it was sad sitting on the train knowing that the trip was over.
At our check in gate at the airport reality started to hit even further when we saw the long unorganised queue of Australian people waiting to check in. Boo!!
We had a few hours to hang out in the airport where we had one more set meal and I bought the last of my gifts.
It was really sad to hop on the plane and we both made a few comments that we should just turn and run out of the airport. We dragged ourselves onto the plane in the end and made the journey home.
Thank you Japan! We'll be back soon. We promise!
