Merry Christmas!
Today we went to Nara, a smaller town about 30mins by train from Osaka. We did a 3 hour walk amongst the temples, shrines and deer and enjoyed the drizzling rain and nearly empty walkways. We had both been to Nara on our previous visits to Japan so it was cool to go back there and remember everything.
Some of the famous landmarks in Nara are the Todaji temple with giant Buddha inside and also the 3 and 5 storey pagodas. We got our fortunes at the Todaji temple which confirmed that we both have good luck. We drank from the fountains for extra good luck and climbed up to a higher temple that had a great view over Nara.
We bought a pack of biscuits to feed the friendly deer and one eager guy kept butting me in the leg. Lucky he had his antlers cut down. We also saw two male deer fighting over a female which was very cool.
After some very affordable and tasty lunch of ramen and chicken we headed back to Osaka and our hostel for a nap. Walking around in the cold all day is pretty tiring. We bought some snacks from Family Mart for a light dinner and then settled in for the night.
