This morning when we peeped out our window we saw it was a pretty overcast day with a very high chance of rain. However we had already decided to go back to Ueno Park again so rain or not we went.
After breakfast in the hostel we caught the train to Ueno where it started to rain a bit heavier but nothing too unmanageable. We had decided to forego an umbrella so we popped on our coat hoods and made for the museums.
First stop was the Science Museum but after seeing that half the museum was closed for refurbishment we moved on to the National Museum. It was only ¥600 each to get in, such a bargain.
We weaved our way through the building learning about the history of Japanese through the various artwork and objects. The exhibits varied from the last time we visited which was a pleasant surprise.
After an hour or two in the museum, we went out to the museum cafe for lunch. This was a lesson we learnt from two years ago after we spent a hangry hour searching for lunch at Ueno station. So today's lunch was very calm and collected and also tasty and affordable.
By this stage it was still raining but we really wanted to make it through the zoo so off we set. Another ¥600 for the zoo and we were in.
It was cold and raining the whole time we were there (from about 2 until 5pm). But the plus side was that the zoo was practically empty so we got great access to all of the enclosures. Some of my favourite animals were the otters, birds and tamanduas.
At closing time we exited the zoo and headed back to the station. Before catching the train home we had a quick afternoon tea at the station bakery which are always packed with delicisies. I had a chocolate croissant type thing and a cinnamon scroll with a honey tea whilst Shannon enjoyed a butter potato bun thing and a red bean donut. Interesting choices on Shannon's part.
We warmed up for a bit when we got back to the hostel and as it was still raining by dinner time we stayed in the hostel cafe and had these weird whole hamburgers baked in a cheese sauce.
Tomorrow we are going to an owl cafe! I'm so excited!!
