We started our morning with breakfast at the ryokan. We had organised the day before to have breakfast at 8am and we weren't sure if they brought the meal to us or what. So we waited until 8am and then a few minutes past our phone started to ring and the lady informed us that our breakfast was ready in the dining room. So we quickly got dressed and located the dining room. Breakfast was huge! We had cereal and fruit and toast and scrambled eggs. It was the biggest breakfast we've had so far.
After breakfast we both went to the public bath in the ryokan to wash up. It was quite delightful soaking in the warm water. Lovely way to begin the day.
After we were dressed we headed into town and the station and took the train to a small town nearby, Obuse.
It was snowing lightly throughout the day but it wasn't too cold so it was nice walking around the town. First off we went to the lamp and lighting museum which was pretty cool and it showed the history of lighting in Japan.
After that we had a brief stop in a sake brewery where we thought we'd be able to try some sake but couldn't work out how to ask. So we left there and headed to a patisserie. There were so many beautiful cakes and pastries in the store! We selected a few each then sat down with a hot drink to enjoy them.
We headed to an art museum after our "lunch" and enjoyed looking at the artwork which was quite modern and colourful. We spent an hour or so there and then decided we were ready to head home.
We went back to the station and bought a coffee for Shannon and some sweet chestnut soup for me whilst we waited for the train.
When we got back home we settled into our room after picking up some snacks from Lawson. It was quite cold and we ended up falling asleep in our cosy beds for a few hours.
When we awoke we had another warm, warm bath and dressed for dinner.
We didn't know where exactly to go for dinner but when we went to leave Yumoto-san asked us on the way out where we were going and we said we didn't know. So he suggested a restaurant not far away that did ramen and set meals. We were set!
We found the place easy enough and settled into our sets with an English menu. We ordered a lot of food and ate until our hearts content. It was really a very delicious meal. When we paid the lady gave us a thank you gift for visiting which was very lovely. All in all it was quite the success!
We are back in our room now getting ready to snuggle up for another cosy night. So far I am enjoying our time in Yudanaka because of the delicious food we've had and the lack of crowds.
