Phwoar! What a day! Both Shannon's and my feet and legs are killing us!
We started out at around 9am and were on the way to the train station to get to Spa Land when it really started to pelt down rain. We ducked into a cafe to have coffee and breakfast and talk about what else we could do seeing as the theme park didn't seem like such a great idea in the rain.
We decided on the Nagoya Science Museum and once the rain stopped we walked about 2km to get there. It's a cool building with a huge earth shaped centre which is the planetarium. We paid our fare to get in and went about exploring the exhibits.
There was a lot of hands on displays as well as a deep freeze lab (which was so cold) and an electromagnetic current room (which was so loud!). At 11:20am we were scheduled to go into the planetarium for our viewing of the star show. They had warned us when buying our tickets that it was all in Japanese but Shannon was still keen to go in so we went ahead. We took our seats which were pretty comfortable and reclined slightly and the show started. The room went dark and the stars came out. And then the guy started pointing out different stars and constellations with lengthy explanations in Japanese. Before long Shannon and I both started to fall asleep. At one point I heard someone snoring and to be safe I gave Shannon a kick and it turns out it was him! Haha. The show went for about 50mins and was quite boring but the nap time was very pleasant.
After that we spent a few more hours exploring the exhibits. At 2pm we left the museum and stopped for lunch at Ichiran ramen. They probably do some of the better ramen and I even had a tofu dessert which was delish.
We walked through a few shops after lunch to help with our digestion before making a snap decision to make our way to Nagoya Castle. With the help of some free wifi in the subway we found the correct stop and walked towards the castle. We arrived just on last tickets time and had a quick 1 hour explore before closing time.
The castle is fairly large, about the same as Himeji castle and the exterior appears to be in close to original form. The interior had all been done up and was a museum. We didn't have a great deal of time to explore all that in detail but we got to the top of the castle and had a great view of Nagoya.
On our way out we stopped to get some photos of the castle and attempted some jumping photos. Unfortunately today I managed to get one but Shannon couldn't get the timing so it was a bit of a failure again.
We took the subway back to Sakae (the stop closest to our hostel) and then had a drink at Starbucks to rest our feet. We did a bit of shopping after that at GU where we got semi-matching flannies and some cheap cheap socks.
For dinner we had Yayoiken which is a casual restaurant that has good set meals. I had a pork schnitzel cooked in a miso broth which was so delicious.
We are back at the hostel now, all showered and ready for Spa Land tomorrow. It should be a fun day.
