Happy New Year! For this evening's celebrations we decided to go on a pub crawl that had been advertised at our hostel. We met up with everyone in our lobby at 6pm and then set out with our Japanese hosts to go to the bar.
Our first stop was at a basement bar where we stayed for about an hour. We were allowed two drinks and 3 shots. It was a nice place to start the night and warm up for everything. We made friends with Australian and Japanese people alike, although I can't really remember the Japanese people's names as they were all a bit similar.
After the bar we were herded out onto the street and led like sheep to the club. Or as we started to refer to it as, the crab, after a funny misunderstanding a fellow Australian, Mia, had with one of the Japanese. So off we went to the crab!
It was once again a basement space with a dance floor, music and bar. So we were set. We spent the next few hours dancing, drinking and making friends. I tried to practice my Japanese with my new friends, but I fear my efforts left much to be desired.
When the countdown came, unfortunately Shannon was busy at the bar and missed it... But we still had a great night. We were supposed to go out to a nearby shrine at 1pm to hear the bell tolling ceremony they do for New Years but come 12:30am us Australians were far too hungry and drunk to stick around. So off we want back to the hostel with a very noisy and much needed pitstop at Maccas along the way.
It was a great night!
