Today was a beautiful sunny day and we took the opportunity to go on the Philosopher's Walk which is a 2km stroll which takes you past some temples and shrines.
We stopped at a few temples and shrines along the way and snapped some good photos of everything. We also passed a section along the canal where a whole bunch of stray cats were hanging out. And we saw a sweet little Shiba puppy napping in his little tent out the front of his house.
The last stop on the Philosopher's Walk is at Ginkakuji otherwise known as the Silver Pavilion. It was a bit more crowded there and we bustled around the gardens and the pavilion which surprisingly is not actually that silver.
Before heading onto Kinkakuji, or the Golden Pavilion, we had some soba noodles for lunch.
The bus ride from Ginkakuji to Kinkakuji was about half an hour and when we got off the bus it felt extra cold after the warmth of the bus. As we were approaching the entrance for Kinkakuji we commented on how cold we were and then, alas, it started to snow! Actual snow fell from the sky! It was so cool! We had seen this photo before leaving for Japan of Kinkakuji covered in snow and we were hoping to see it like that. The weather compromised with us though, and it snowed lightly for the whole time we were at the pavilion and stopped almost as soon as we left. Lovely! Kinkakuji is really beautiful as well. The top two levels are actually covered in gold leaf and it is very shiny.
We made our way back to the hostel by bus after that to prepare for New Years.
