Hey guys!
So (almost) another week in Germany has passed. To sum it up; this week I've experienced snow on and off, packing up the old house, a lot of visits to the new house, german lessons, helping the kids with their homework, bonding with Simon (2), a LOT of Oma's cooking and some more Christmas markets. Not to mention an invitation to a Dildo party.
Tomorrow we move into the new house, which I know Kathrin, Frank and the kids are really looking forward to! And so am I, the place has been renovated and cleaned and is looking fantastic. Plus I get my own little bathroom, yay.
My German is improving bit by bit. Between die, das, der, ist, woher, wie, sie, ich, ein and eine it's all very confusing! Not helped by the fact that I forgot to pack my English/German books and that my teacher doesn't speak English...But hopefully my darling Mum has sent them to me and I will have them soon.
Oma (grandma) has been cooking most of the lunches this week to help out with the move. She is such a good cook, and the best part is there's always dessert! I still haven't tried anything totally outrageous but it may interest my mother to know that I haven't declined to try ANYTHING; not even Salami, Sausage or Ham! I'm willing to give everything a go at least once. Having said that, I'm still not fussed on the sausages but I'm sure I'll get there.
Christmas markets are absolutely beautiful...I can't actually put it into words! The German sure take a lot of pride and effort in making their streets beautiful at Christmas time. Endless lights, baubles, tinsells, Tannembaums (Christmas Trees), Santa Claus' and beautiful displays of the 3 wise men, baby Jesus etc. It definitely puts Taree's 's***ting position' Santas to shame!
Also this week, the kids got a visit from Saint Nikolaus (Santa). He brings their presents on the night of the 5th and they open them on the 6th. So different to Aust!
That's it from me, looking forward to the move tomorrow and settling into the new house. I will be closer to the city then and am going to make an effort to explore my surroundings, do some shopping and make some friends! Other than that, I'm looking forward to Paris for New Years and planning some impromptu weekends away. I've made a bucket list of 13 countries so I've definitely got work and planning to do! I have a feeling this year will absolutely fly, as they say time flies when you're having fun. Not sure who actually bothers reading this besides my Mama, but any visitors are welcome! This place is beautiful and I can't wait to see what else it has to offer.
Although there's no denying I miss Australia and my friends, especially at this time of year - Oh well, it's one Christmas of many and all part of the experience! I'll see you all in a year's time!
