Hey everyone!
So as most of you already know I have finally arrived safe and sound in Germany. The first leg of my flight was the worst, Australia to Singapore. At the airport my bag was overweight and as I was holding up the line I opted just to take some crap out of my bag and send it through! Worst decision, it was such a pain to lug it all around. The flight went so slow and was so cramped, and the guy who was sitting to my left had the WORST breath, I had to watch movies with my hand over my face. Yuck! Thank God he got off at Singapore! I had a lovely girl named Bianca sitting to my right though, she was from Romania and knew a lot more about travelling than I did for which I was very grateful. The food was pretty good, pasta with some roast vegies. I was careful to avoid anything with meat or chicken because I'm a bit iffy about plane food as it is. We had only a short stopover at Singapore, about 40 minutes which was enough time to drag all my stuff to the toilet to freshen up and then back to my gate to board the plane! I also took advantage of their free wi-fi and snuck a bit of facebook in, too. I would have loved a longer stopover at Singapore because the airport was absolutely beautiful! Everything was so clean and well looked after.
Singapore to London was the next flight, about 12 hours. We got fed almost straight away, some noodles (with chicken which I left to the side) and salad. The guy next to me this time didn't eat his noodles, and I wanted to ask him for them but I thought that might be weird. Then I slept for about 4 hours, and then watched some movies while drifting in and out of sleep. I started to get really hungry! About 2 hours before we landed they fed us some 'breakfast.' We had the choice of bacon, eggs or sausage (those who know me know how much I hate those 3 foods) or a cheese omlette. So I chose the omlette, which looked like a big lump of frozen mashed potato...and it had mushrooms with it, which I don't eat either. So I just put the omlette on my croissant and dealt with it, haha. The guy next to me didn't eat his croissant, and again I wanted to ask him for it, I mean who wastes a perfectly good croissant?? Honestly..
We stopped at London, and I had to go through their border security to get my bag because my travel agent is obviously too dumb to book a connecting flight properly. It took forever and I have never met a ruder bunch of people in my life than UK border security! I then had to wait about 20 minutes for my bag to come out, but by the time I got it I was grateful because I was able to fill it up with stuff and then pay the extra baggage fare when I checked into my next flight. It was so much better not having to carry it all around, well worth the 40 pounds. I then went through customs and tried to get on the internet with my computer, which proved very difficult...so I used one of their computers which didn't have a webcam to skype, and the keyboard was about half the size of a normal one so I was typing like I was drunk. Got to check in with the family and have a bit of a chat, then I freshened up again and boarded my flight to Luxembourg! This took under an hour, which I was really happy about. I showed my passport at the..um..thingy?? Which didn't take long and then I FINALLY got to meet my host family, who were waiting there with a beautiful home made poster and some flowers for me. They were all so excited and happy and I was happy to finally be there. Then we went to my new home which was about a 45 minute drive and obviously in Germany. We went on the Autobahn for a bit which was so fun! The kids showed me around the house, and my room which already had 3 photos in frames on my shelves of my family. And their Oma came over with some home made cake. I then unpacked my suitcase a bit and gave them all their presents - some Aussie books, flags, Koala keyrings, tim tams and milo! I did bring some Vegemite but they said I could keep that to myself :) Then I unpacked my bag and made myself a little more at home. I struggled to stay awake in order to avoid jetlag as much as possible, but Kathrin (my host Mum) made a beautiful dinner for us all, and I had a shower which was the best thing EVER after travelling for so long. I sat down to facebook and Skype the family and finally got to go to sleep at about 10pm.
I woke up at 9 this morning feeling pretty home sick, but a quick face time to Emma fixed that! This first few weeks will be the hardest, but I'm pretty excited to see what Europe has to offer and get myself settled.
Well that's it from me, sorry it's so boring but I'm sure you were all dying to hear every detail of my flight and arrival. I will update this soon when I've done some more exciting things...
Love you all heaps and heaps!
