Sunday 26th Nov
We got up early to check out of the hostel before 10am. They didn;t have a courtesy bus so we had to call a cab to take us and our hundred bags down to the bus station. As we checked out the guy gave us each back $20 for our key deposits so we ended up only paying $41 each for 3 nights in Brisbane! Such a bargain! Especially seeing as we did so well out of the whole fiasco! lol! The hostel was so disorganised but that worked in our favour! We caught the Greyhound at 10.30am to go to Surfers Paradise. Vikki & Hayley were on the same bus too and we also bumped into a girl called Kathy who we'd met in our dorm back in 1770. We arrived at Surfers and a guy from our hostel picked us up. Vikki and Hayley were staying at a different place to us and unfortunately they had to walk to their hostel, it was even more unfortunate that they managed to walk the wrong way for about 15 mins with all their bags too! oops! When we'd checked in we did our washing and had lunch. The hostel - Surf and Sun - was pretty cool, it had a nice pool and a chill out area and there were soooo many staff! It seemed that loads of backpackers had stayed there to work and never ended up moving on again! We think there were more staff than guests! In the afternoon we walked down to look at the beach and wandered into town. The whole place was full of schoolies! Schoolies are 17/18 years olds who have just graduated from high school and basically they all go away and hit the Gold Coast in their hundreds to party. It's the Australian equivalent of Ibiza or Magaluf and we were right in the centre of it! Generally it was pretty ok, all the 18 year olds would be in the clubs and the 17 year olds were out in the streets or hanging off their hotel balconies! That evening we went for a free meal at a bar in toen called Shooters. The meal was pretty good - a random mix of pasta, wedges and fish. We stayed in there for a few drinks and laughed at lots of drunk schoolies and their antics! We met up with Vikki and Hayley and we also met "the claw"! He was a guy that would continue to freak Em out for days on end!! He was a Swiss guy who only had two fingers on one of his hands (hence the nickname!) and Em couldn't bare to look at it! lol! After a while we left and went to another bar/club - Melbas. Em met some schoolies and some "toolies" (older people who go to the gold coast to pick up schoolies!)
Monday 27th Nov
We went into town to shop and use the internet. We managed to book a cheap flight to Melbourne for December and we had a little photo shoot on the beach to send back home to make everyone very jealous of where we were and how our tans are coming on! lol! We met up with Vikki and Hayley and bought out Dreamworld (theme park) tickets for the following day. In the evening we just cooked dinner and chilled out. It had been a pretty late night the day before and we needed to get up early for our action packed day at Dreamworld so we had an early night.
Tues 28th Nov
We got up early and caught the 9am bus to Dreamworld with Vikki and Hayley. We had an awesome day going on all the rides. Hayley was pretty scared of most of the rides as she didn't like the thought of going upside down so she only came on one ride. The rest of us went on all the massive rides and they were amazing! I've never screamed so much in my life but I guess that's just what happens when you're plummeting head first towards the ground!! Em was the only one of us to go on the Big Drop though, we all wimped out. I hate that feeling when you lose your stomach! lol! We also saw a tiger show in the theme park which was pretty cool. They made them do tricks and we even saw a tiger climb a tree! We got absolutely soaked on the log ride and had to stop for lunch whilst we dried off! Em and I also went on the bumper cars and spent the whole time crashing into little kids! What fun?! lol! Was a really good day! We had dinner back at the hostel and randomly bumped into Craig and Dan who we'd met in Birdie Num Num in Brisbane a few days earlier, they were now in Surfers and staying at the same hostel as us. At about 9pm we walked into town with everyone from the hostel and went to The Shack. We had a free drink and drinks were just $1.50 after that. Bargain! We sat in there drinking for ages with a group of Irish lads we met - Steve, Gary, Marcus, Pete and Paul. After quite a few vodkas we moved onto Melbas where we got in free and had more cheap drinks. We stayed in there for the rest of the night - we spent most of the time chatting to the Irish lads, mainly asking them to repeat themselves as we couldn't understand their accents! Poor lads! Em had a dance off with the boys, not sure how Paul participated in this considering he doesn't drink! The rest of us all got pretty drunk and I decided to head back to the hostel whilst Em stayed out with some of the lads and went to a strip bar. She was very impressed with how the girl dancing managed to climb up a pole and remove her clothing whilst still looking sexy! But the amusement soon wore off and she got bored and headed back too.
Weds 29th Nov
Hangover day!
We didn't really do anything productive today - to be honest getting out of bed was a bit of an achievement in itself! Especially considering Em managed to fall off her top bunk in the middle of the night! lol! In the afternoon we did manage to drag ourselves into town and Em treated herself to another new bikini (that was the third in as many days!) In the evening we cooked dinner at the hostel and decided to hit the town again in a big way. Weds night was the hostels big bar crawl and we couldn't miss out! Whilst we were getting ready there was a massive electrical storm. The lightening was amazing, never seen anything like it! At about 8pm we had punch at the hostel and were then picked up by a big party bus to take us into town. Em and I went out with Paul, Pete and Steve. First we went to a bar for a free drink, we then went to Melbas again!! We met up with Vikki and Hayley in there and I went straight to the loo and bumped into Eve - the girl from Blackburn who we met back at Base on Magnetic Island and had a good laugh with. So random! We'd left Bae in such a hurry that we never got her number so it was cool to see her again! and funny to laugh at the Canadian boy she had following her around! After Melbas we went to The Shack for more cheap drink and to dance to the cheesy music. Paul and Steve went home coz they're lame but Marcus and Gary came out and met us too. We danced for a while and Em was busting her moves until she suddenly froze in horror... I didn't know what was wrong until I followed her gaze to the stage... there, right in the centre at the front was THE CLAW! he was gyrating around, waving his hand(s?) in the air! He even ran his hand(s) through his hair which was hilarious and Em does a wicked impression of!! lol! Later on we left and went to The Drink, the final stop on the bar crawl. We saw Eve in there, still with the Canadian guy attached to her and we saw some of the breakdancing crew on the dancefloor that we had watched in Brisbane a few days earlier. We watched them dance for a bit and then walked (or maybe stumbled) to the nearest kebaby and then back to the hostel. Think we finally rolled in about 4am.
