Kat and Em's Travels
Thursday 26th October
We had to get up early which proved quite difficult after all the beer drunk the night before! We caught a bus down to Townsville where we bumped into a Brummie couple we met in Cape Trib. The Brummies really are everywhere! Our hostel looked like a motel, or maybe a prison. It was a bit weird as loads of Australians lived there. We went for a wander around town - it was so dull! We even had to hang around at a bar for it to start serving food we were that bored! After the heavy night at Mission we were shattered so went to bed early. As you've probably guessed we wouldn't really recommend stopping off at Townsville! Not very much there to see or do.
Friday 27th October
On arriving at the ferry terminal to catch the boat over to Magnetic Island we bumped into the party people from Mission. Everyone had been under the assumption that there was a Full Moon Party at Base Backpackers that night. Unfortunately we'd received some false information and it wasn't on until the next week! So we had to make our own party. Base was a beautiful hostel. I'd been told by a friend it was the best hostel she'd ever stayed in. I wouldn't quite go as far as saying that as we could hardly move in our room of 8 people! But it was right on the beach and there a pool and hammocks and a huge bar area. We decided to make the most of the day and go on a hunt for wild koalas. We went on a walk to the forts and spotted 4 or 5. But as they were right on the path we aren't quite sure whether or not they had been planted there for tourists! Met another Brummie. Afterwards we walked to the north side of the island and paid a visit to the bottle shop in preparation for the evening antics. When we got back we spotted a sign in a room which said that BYO wasn't allowed so we had to hide all the alcohol under the beds. That evening was also our introduction to goon from a girl called Eve (cheap wine in a white box like the nasty stuff in Asda). It's what all the backpackers drink! Then we just partied at the bar. Nothing too interesting. Apart from the Swedish lesbians trying to dance with us. They are everywhere we go! There aren't actually lesbians (we don't think), but they are blonde twins from Sweden and they certainly dance like lesbians!
Saturday 28th October
We went for our free fry up which was included in our 2 day package. Nothing like a good fry up to cure a hangover. Except it wasn't that good! Then we spent time by the pool and took some kayaks out for a bit. We passed a nudist beach where we saw some naked men who appeared to be doing yoga or something similar. Obviously we didn't intend on going near this beach as the other two people on it were old and fat but somehow the tide washed us towards it! Or maybe we stopped rowing, I'm not sure. It was funny though! We spent the afternoon chilling by the pool again and later that evening Roshni (my friend from school) and her mate Kav from uni arrived. They are also travelling down the East Coast but in a few weeks as they have to go back to uni. We went to watch karaoke at the bar. I didn't take part, you know I love it but not when it's a competition and you have to sign up. That's no fun! Then we drank, and drank some more. Making up for lost time.
