Ready for the Next Adventure!! Even though I was incredibly tired and soar lastnight I found it very difficult to sleep and spent most of the night thinking about my next move here in Venezuela. As the sun was out I put my clothes outside to dry and then started sending a few emails and uploading my photos. I had an arepa for breakfast and after eating for the last 7 days I am officially over these corn cakes - well atleast the crappy made ones. Unfortunately I started to have belly pains mid-morning which turned into the all to familiar travelers diarrhea. I went out for a walk around the city and was once again overcome by stomach cramps and rushing to the bathroom. I was starting to think if it would even be possible to get on the bus tonight and after lunch I started feeling even worse and decided to catch a taxi to the bus station and try change my ticket. The taxi driver was a really cool guy and spoke English very well and offered to go in and talk to the ticket lady for me; success I was given a two day extension on my ticket and will just wait and see how my stomach feels tommorow before making any decisions. On the way back to the centre we were pulled over by a road block and i had my first encounter with corrupt police here in Venezuela. We were both told to exit the car and the policeman (very arrogant) started asking lots of questions of which I answered and my taxi driver friend translated. I was asked for my passport but it was back at the hostel so my smoothe talking taxi driver friend explained the situation and made jokes with the guy who at this point was both look angry and curious to what he might be able to scam out of me. In the end he let us go as there were now other cars lined up for police checks and my taxi driver friend told me that we were incredibly lucky and that from now on I should carry my passport with me everywhere. When we got back to centre I went and brought a bunch of fruits in the hope to give my body some much needed nutrients and easily digestible foods. I did start to feel better but after a cup of tea and some fruits I felt horrible again and found myself racing to the bathroom. I spent the rest of the afternoon sleeping and trying to get fluids down.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Bus change to two days ahead
- Diarrhea and stomach pains - either from yesterday's chicken or drinking some tap water today.
