Day 1 Venezuela!! Up early to return to the boarder to get our exit and entry stamps turned into quite a mission; we took a collectivo out to the boarder and met with our Venezuelan friends again on the Brazil side of the boarder. We got talking with some locals and ended up trying sone special Brazilian drink and eating Brazil buts all the time getting side-traked before realizing the boarder had opened. We headed to immigration and waited in line and just as we were about to enter the building one of the officials came out and told us there was no Internet and so no passport processing. We then had to wait an hour and a half for the Internet to come back on before we could finally get our passports stamped. We walked across the boarder and once again stopped at the boarder line and got some photos with Junior and Francisco (our Venezuelan friends). Arriving at the Venezuela we only had to wait 15 minutes before being ushered into a mobile van and with a few quick questions were given our entry stamps for Venezuela. We grabbed a taxi and headed back to Santa Elena to start our search for a Roraima tour. We walked around and talked to every available tour company and found out they all did the same tour and all needed a minimum of 4 people before the tour could go ahead. We settled on one company we liked but now had to find two other people or hope that two more people would come in and book tour for tomorrow or next day. A quick lunch and it was off to look for some clothes and a poncho for the trek - I am really confused as to what I should buy as I really don't have any warm clothes for what I am sure will be some cold nights. After settling for a tin of sardines lastnight I decided I deserved a good meal tonight and had been eyeing off a few resteraunts selling roast chicken. However upon walking around I found most of the shops had sold out but as luck would have it one resteraunt had half a roast chicken left so I grabbed it to go. I grabbed some very good vegetables and easily some of the best avocados I have ever eaten and it was back to the hostel. We met our new Japanese friends again and directed them towards Mystic Tours in the hope they may join us and make up our needed group of 4. Although Santa Elena is nice I wouldn't want to stay here too long so both Po and I are thinking if the tour with Mystic doesn't go ahead then we take the more expensive tour with Backpacker-tours leaving on the 10th.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Back to the Boarder - immigration mission - 3+ hours with Venezuelan friends
- looking for tours - Mystic tours the best but need two others
- 1/2 roast chick $3.70 (cheap)
