Day 5 Long hike Down!! Lastnight it was incredibly cold and the rain poured down for most of night and right near my tent a stream formed and had me feeling like I would be washed away.
Breakfast was bit rough today with cold coffee and some kind of porridge - they must of ran out of food. Jose was keen to get going early so we headed off on the pouring rain and gale-force winds. It wasn't long before we came to the decent and unfortunately the weather worsened. When walking along the wall we were absolutely plummeted by the waterfall that had now formed - it was like a pool of water getting dumped on your head for about 10 continuous minutes. The path had turned into a river and we were all s***ting ourselfs and taking care with each and every step. The adrenaline was pumping and I felt fantastic - unfortunately everything of mine including my camera had got soaked but there was no time to worry about that now. I used the adrenaline to help me concentrate and navigate my way down the mountain. The rest of the group was walking really slow and as the river path was gaining more water and strength I steamed ahead arriving at the base camp at around 10:30am. At the base camp I tried to dry my things as best I could whilst I waited for the others and for our porter to prepare the lunch. Lunch for me today was again quite pathetic with a small salad and a 5th of a tin of tuna - I once again asked for more and once again was laughed at. I couldn't help but be in a bad mood knowing I had to walk another 12km hungry and wet. The sun came out and with a few sweet snacks I got some energy back and steamed on. With the sunshine out came the lizards and I was even lucky enough to see two small snakes. When we arrived at the river crossing there was too much water so the guides had organized a small canoe to take us across one at a time - climbing into the canoe it almost tipped and I spent the whole time nervous we were going in the water. Yuki and I were a long way ahead of the others so we raced towards our camp for the night where we new the river was waiting for us. As soon as I arrived I took my clothes off and dived in for my first wash in 3 days - words can not describe how great it was and luckily the sun was still out. I washed my clothes and enjoyed the brief time if sun before the weather changed and the rain started. By now everyone had arrived and was bathing in the river but luckily when the rain came I was packed and ready to run up to the shelter. Jose was super grumpy tonight and yelled at us for putting our stuff on the table and when we asked for hot chocolate told us we wanted too much. Dinner was served super early and amazingly was the soy mince I was promised (supposed to have every day), unfortunately they didn't know how to cook it and each of us felt stomach pains straight away. Jose was then quick to pack up and start setting their tents on the shelter so we had nowhere to sit. This meant we were all back in our tents by 6pm. Another group of Japanese was just starting their trek and I think there were 11 people in the group which I imagine would make the trip very interesting. Even though the food wasn't great it still warmed me up and I climbed into my sleeping bag hot as anything and manage to doze off quite easily.
