After sleeping on a chair lastnight and getting absolutely eaten alive by Mosquitos I am very excited to be going to a 5 star hotel tonight!
My friend and I decided to check in early and make the most of the royal treatment!
We arrived at 11am to some wonderful welcome drinks and made our way straight to the pool. Right next to the rooftop pool was a small fitness centre - I couldn't resist I had to go do a quick workout as this was a rare opportunity to use a gym. Unfortunately my shoulder is still in a lot of pain and I think I may have made it worse either way it was nice to be in a gym again.
Next we went for lunch down in the markets, where we were staying is the most expensive area in Bangkok so even the street food was expensive. I had a stirfry chicken and egg salad along with fish balls - amazing. Next mission was to find wine. Unfortunately wine is hit with a very high tax in Thailand and prices are up there with Australian prices $15 -$20 a bottle. Ohwell we are at a hotel and I am not paying for the luxury so time to splurge - finding wine took the majority of the afternoon.
As soon as we got back I headed straight for the pool again whilst my friend went for a traditional Thai massage.
It was fantastic getting treated like royalty, wearing robes, being pampered and it is true I could sure get used to it but the truth is I like it more when I am uncomfortable, forced to share with strangers and ever thankful for the basics. I decided this year I am going to achieve something constructive; maybe I will start a book of my travels, a website or an organization - something to give me new direction in 2013.
