Bangkok baby!
My flight arrived at 9am and after absolutely no sleep I was ready for the start of a new adventure.
First thing I had to get some $$$ and make my way to Goys place. I managed to get the Airport link and find my way to Goys place where her sister was waiting to meet me.
Lunch time the big I have been so excited for to eat Thai food: I headed to the Victory Monument food markets and started with some Spicy Pork and noodle soup - wow! Next I seen this old lady making Pappaya and crab salad so I sat next to her whilst she made some up for me. It turned out really good but incredibly spicy so much so that the splatter on my lips gave me pain - ohwell I know now "ask for less chilli"!
Goy had asked me to come and stay with her at the Hotel where her company is holding a convention: The 5 Star Chatrium Hotel so I headed in to meet her by 6pm and holly s*** this place is amazing! I headed straight to the pool for a swim and then Goy and I got ready to head out for dinner and to partake in the Kings Birthday celebrations. The hotel has a free boat that takes you along the river and to the city area -so we caught that downtown. The city was a buzz with tourists and Thais alike! Everything here is chaotic, crazy and exciting. First stop - try fried bugs - off a street vendor I ordered up Grasshoppers, crickets, wasps, grubs and a few other bugs and wow these things are tasty as! Next we tried some Chinese pork sushi dishes!
So where to head when in Central Bangkok - Khaosan Road Ofcourse the famous Backpackers ally where anything goes! Ok very touristy but wow what an eye opener people everywhere, bars, street food, clubs, people getting massages, sheesh a bars, street acts absolute chaos! We walked around for a few hours before finding a nice resteraunt to eat dinner at. Ok so we ordered up some Spocy Pork Tom Yung soup and sweet and sour chicken - omg I am in love with Thai food the flavors are unlike anything I have ever tasted before. Next stop the grand Palace to see the fireworks and the lighting of the lanterns. 1000s upon 1000s of people were out in the park grounds celebrating this special day and it was so nice to just wonder about and watch the people. We also managed to stumble across a hindu religious offering. Two of Goys colleagues were coming in to meet us so we headed back to Khaosan road to meet them. We decided on a nice club and went in for some drinks! Interesting is all I will say lots of seedy backpacker types and very pretty Thai girls! We decided on something a little more relaxed and went to another area where they had bars setup out on the street and spent the night chatting away!
What a start to my Bangkok adventure - how I will top this day I don't know.
