Today we were up early or atleast I was as we were supposed to have two Ecuadorians who had been staying in Ronnie's house prior to us - drop by and pick their things up at 3:30am. I waited for there arrival but they never came so at about 8am Cris and I packed our lunches and made our way to the main square to try and book a tour of the sacred valley. We found a tour at a good price and by 9am we were on the bus making our way through the city up past a few archaeological sites. Amazingly for the very cheap price they gave us a bilingual guide who was incredibly knowledgable, descriptive and organized. The first site we visited was a mirador looking into the valley - just a quick stop to get a couple of photos and then back in bus. The next stop probably an hour and a half out of Cusco was Pisac - an incredibly well preserved farming township built on the side of a mountain and consisting of 100s of terraces. The place was full of tourists but it was still really nice to walk around, be told about the farming techniques they used to use here and how the people had to flea with the Spanish invasion. Everywhere in the Sacred Valley you find the most incredibly scenic landscapes, well preserved archaeological sites and different types of terrain from arid desert to snow capped 6000m peaks. The second stop was Reabumba where there was an organized buffet lunch stop - it looked and sounded amazing but unfortunately was more then the price of the ticket we paid so Cris and I found a nice spot and enjoyed our nice packed lunches. After lunch we headed to the province of Reabumba where we visited another amazing archaeological site where once again ontop of the mountain sat an old settlement. The highlight here was the sun temple - half constructed using 700 ton perfectly shaped rocks as the wall pieces and on the opposing mountain rocks shaped as famous Incas can be seen. Our last stop was Chichron famous for handicrafts - we saw how the wool was cleaned, dried, colored and made into various pieces - was surprisingly very interesting. It was now 6pm so the bus headed an hour back to Cusco. As it was Cris's lastnight she wanted to go out- so we went back to Ronnie's place showered and headed out. Unfortunately after an hour of walking around we found nothing that we really liked so we headed to the supermarket and brought a roast chicken a litre of Argentinian wine and some salad. It was nearly 10pm when we got to eat and by god were we hungry, the chicken was incredible and we nearly finished the whole thing and the wine a treat.
