Today the plan is to go Paragliding. I have never para-glided before and here in Bucaramanga they offer very reasonable price tandem paragliding flights for about $28. I don't usually splurge but seen as it was my birthday a few days ago and my Grandma had given me some money I thought why not get the blood pumping. At about 10am I walked up the highway and found a little bus where apparently I could find a bus that would take me up the Routique to the launch pad. I was there about 5 minutes when 2 guys came in a car offering to take me up the hill for about a dollar, how could I say no to that? As we made our way up the hill they kept pulling over and picking people up until the car was full and we were off flat strap up the hill. They dropped me right at the launch pad, I talked to a few of the pilots and was given the price and time when they could take me up on my tandem flight. I had just over an hour to wait so I pulled up a seat and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Just after midday it came time to take my tandem flight as now the thermals were strong enough to lift the weight of two people. I paid my money and chatted to the pilot for 5 minutes and then it was time to go, no safety instruction, no just incase talk instead we went straight to the launch pad where I put this seat harness thing on, a helmet and told to run until I was told then lift my feet. To be honest I was not worried at all just a little nervous holding my iPhone. The kite filled with air, about 5 steps and off the side of the mountain we went, incredibly smoothly I might add. The views were breathtaking and it was almost as if everything was in slow motion. Every now and again a gust of wind would cause a sudden jerk of the shoot which would cause me to s*** a little mainly because each time it happened I would almost drop my phone. The 10 minutes seemed to last forever and was more then enough time, it was very peaceful and I could see myself learning this sport. Towards the end of the flight my pilot asked if I would like to do a few twirls which I Ofcourse agreed to- next thing we were spiraling what seemed to be like out of control and wow what a rush - it actually made me a little nauseous and I can see why people spew at this point. Coming down for landing we kept getting gusts of wind which meant two failed attempts before landing on the third. The whole experience was great and I would certainly recommend it and I am sure at $25 this is probably one of the cheapest places on the planet to paraglide. I ate lunch my now staple gocamole and then made my way down the hill, jumping on some random bus and then trying to converse with them where I needed to go. When I arrived back at Sierras she had also just arrived home with her good friend Sarah and a bottle of vodka and champaign. The sun was out so we sat around drinking and chatting before heading up to the rooftop pool. The jacuzzi was chucked on and we spent the night drinking and chatting about South America whilst in a jacuzzi 15 floors up with a beautiful view of the city. I got loads of great info about Peru where Sarah had just been for 2 weeks and I was able to give Sierra some good advice on her upcoming trip to Eastern Europe.
