My last whole day in Rio and I am ready for my next adventure. Rio de Janeiro has been great but to be honest 1 week here would have been plenty of time as I have found the last week I have just been twiddling my thumbs and doing the same thing over and over - head to beach in morning, work-out middle of day, back to apartment for lunch, afternoon walk, yoga, cook dinner for my friends and surf the Internet with no real purpose. Basically all the things, routines I have tried to get away from - the joy in life comes from new experiences not the repetitive mundane. I have also come to the conclusion that Rio is a very touristic, consumeristic and hectic city that accentuates my anxious nature. Nearly every night here I wake up 10 times, I can not relax at all, I am obsess over new foods, I can't make decisions and I spend hours on the Internet trying to plan the future (travel destinations). So once again I find myself heading to the beach to get some sun and write my blog but also with a sense of relief that tommorow there will be A FORCED CHANGE - new experiences, flights, new city, new people, new challenges. So maybe that's where my addiction with travel comes from; forcing myself out of my comfort/routine zones and re-inventing myself. Rio and I do not fit but no worries I can move on and try a new place with new people and new experiences. I made a tortilla for lunch and used lastnights leftover Indian curry which made for a very delicious tasting tortilla. In the afternoon I went for one last walk along the coast and around Botafago bay - the weather was changing and although still quite hot you could tell the weather would crack up soon. Just as I got back to the apartment the rain started and soon after the thunder and lightening - witnessing my first electrical storm here in Rio. In the evening I hung out with Leo and we watched a really interesting documentary on Netflix whilst talking about life.
OBSERVATIONS
- Leo - industrial engineer; very knowledgable
- Tmau disease (fish odour)
- Salvador - dangerous city for thefts
