Another sleepless night and I was up bright and early to make the most of another beautiful day. I started the day with some of Brazils super-berry Acai smoothie and chatted with Lilian before she had to go to work. I then walked to the neighborhood of Gloria in the hope of finding their daily market to pick up som fresh vegetables - unfortunately I couldn't find but found some other interesting shops and markets to look at. By midday it was really hot so I headed back to the apartment for some lunch and some much needed fluids. In the afternoon I had organized to meet my friend Hanna out at her place along Copacabana where we were going to go for a bike ride around the lake. Lilian had let me borrow her bike which was a really nice one but took a bit of effort to get it down and out of the apartment. I couldn't find a bike pass to cross over the highway to the cycle way so like a madman I dodged 10 lanes of crazy traffic and luckily made it over in one piece. I got a little lost but figured out where I needed to go and got myself to Copacabana beach - which today was much nicer then my first days visit: the whole place was buzzing with life and there were many more people about. I found Hana and went to get a bike for her - unfortunately the bike borrow system wasn't working so we have up on that idea and decided to walk to Ipanema. On the way to Ipanema Beach I all of sudden felt incredibly tired and on arrival at the beach had to sit and rest a while. Hana told me a bit more about the other nicer beaches in the area and we organized to maybe visit some of then next week. When the sun went down we walked back to Hana's where I had left my bike and then I cycled back to the apartment. I was so happy to be back as now I was completely exhausted and realizing that bike riding is not for me - hurts my legs to much (I like to walk). Lilian is making dinner tonight so I get the night off somewhat. Lilian wanted to do a really good job with her Brazilian Maquoca - fish soup in a ceramic pot slow cooked in coconut milk - but by 9pm still hadn't started so I jumped in and helped her and kind of got her moving otherwise it would be 1am before we ate. Basically we layered onions, Tomatos, carrots some garlic and ginger and lime to tate in pot then added a heap of coconut milk and then some local fish and brought to the boil - letting summer for an hour. The result one delicious Moqueca with its thick creamy sause with a hint of spice and lime and the fish soft and falling off the bone - I was so hungry I went for two huge servings and enjoyed immensely each and every spoonful.
