Today is my first day in Calafate but I haven't really made a plan as yet as I have to wait to find out when Ana can take me out to her house. At around 9am I met Ana's two workers at the hospederia and joined them for breakfast of cake and sweet bread. Ana had to take off so I waited around for her; checking my emails, surfing the net and getting a bit of an idea what to do here in Calafate. At 1pm Ana was still not back so I walked into town to the supermarket to buy a few things for lunch, at first glance the town is very touristy and all infrastructure is aimed at high paying tourists. The supermarket was surprisingly more expensive then Ushuaia so it looks like a vegetable and egg diet for a few weeks. After lunch I waited around and finally Ana arrived back - she had unfortunately had an issue with some kind of ID theft and had spent the morning trying to figure it out. We headed straight out to her house which turned out to be miles out of the city and a lot further then the 30 minute walk she had described - but no worries it will give me something to do. Ana had asked me to take care of her dogs whilst I am staying which turns out to also be a bigger job then first assumed. With 4 dogs, individual eating plans, medications, seperate housings and different daily routines they are going to keep me busy themselfs. I got a lift back to town with Ana and she dropped me at the supermarket so I could buy a few more things. I then made the long walk back which took just under an hour which was not surprising as I new it was a long way. It is quite lonely in the little old house and with no TV or Internet I am sure to become board quickly. I did have a few other offers of accomodation in town so I will see how it goes and if need be maybe find another host when I get back from Chalten. At around 9pm
another Couchsurfer arrived on his motorcycle (Argentinian) and it turns out he will be staying the next 3-4 days also. I explained to him the house was a little rough with both the shower and toilet not working and all the arrangements with the dogs but other then that it wasn't too bad! We chatted for a bit before I had to call it a night.
