It was a very early start this morning seen as I had to be at the bus stop at 4:40am. I grabbed a warm drink, loaded my backpack up and then made my way to bus stop. There were loads of people at the bus stop and all of us were stood in the cold shivering and waiting for the buses to show up. It was absolutely freezing on the bus but luckily I was able to fall straight to sleep; waking up in the first stop Rio Grande; where I had to get my documents stamped by immigration and change bus. The new bus was a bit rough but it came with a host who straight up brought me a hot cup of coffee; not that I usually drink coffee but there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity of a warm drink. We were also given a box of pastries which will do me nicely for breakfast tomorrow. The roads were rough and all rocks which made it very hard to sleep, I managed to nod on and off but before no time we were at the first of four boarder crossings; we piled off the bus, waited and then followed instructions. After the third boarder crossing I was fed up as we were often made to stand in line for an hour or more. There was a short ferry ride to get back to mainland Chile which was a nice change from sitting on the bus. One more boarder crossing and a total of 4 new stamps in my passport and we were back in Argentina on our way to Rio Gallegos. We arrived around 5pm and my next bus wasn't until 8pm so I went for a walk around and found a supermarket where I could buy a few things for dinner. With a few hours still to kill I went for a walk around an old neighborhood and realized it was a good idea not to stop here for a few days and instead take the bus straight through to Calafate. The bus ride to Calafate was only 4 hours but was also very cold so I didn't get much sleep. When I arrived in Calafate it was midnight so I headed straight to my host Ana's Hosteria; about a 20 minute walk but luckily the town was small and easy to navigate. I arrived and met Ana and much to my suprise she spoke English and preferred that to my bad Spanish. We chatted for a few hours and drank tea and she kindly invited me to stay at her place out in the countryside for my full 2 week stay here.
