For the first time in quite some time I managed to sleep ok lastnight and even though I was up at 6am I felt as if I had gotten some solid sleep. In the morning Sonia took me out for breakfast to her favorite cafe which was just around the corner. As it was 11am I had already eaten breakfast so settled with a mango smoothie which was delicious and enjoyed it outside in the courtyard surrounded by plants and sunshine from every direction. I can't explain how happy I am to be back in a warm climate and being able to wear shorts and a singlet. Sonia had to work at 1:30pm so after a quick stop at the market we headed back to the house. In the afternoon I went for a wonder around Sonia's neighborhood stopping in a beautiful park to enjoy the sunshine. When I arrived back to the house Sonia had just had a siesta and was ready to take me for a walk around her local area and the very touristic Palmero. We walked down old streets, artsy areas and through beautiful streets lined with boutique cafes - it would be hard for anyone not to like this part of the city. The sun started to go down around 7:30pm and the city started to spring to life as people had just started finishing work. We stopped at a small Panaderia so that Sonia could tell me a little about all the different pastries they have here in Argentina. We got talking to the owner Olvidar and he was absolutely blown away with my travels and my stories and invited me to sample and take home his best pastries for free. He was so kind and generous and insisted so I picked out a few of the best looking pastries and then asked for a photo - explaining I would write about this wonderful act of kindness. Sonia was very suprised and said this level of kindness is rare in a city of 10 million people but I had to point out the fact that she had shown just as much kindness by opening her home to me. We joked about going to a nice resteraunt and trying our luck again and then came up with more and more outrageous ideas. Buenos Aires at night is more hectic but certainly more interesting and as they have had a heat wave hear over summer people tend to stay indoors during the day and come out in the afternoons. When we got back to the house I was going to teach Sonia how to cook some simple dishes for when her world trip starts. On the menu was guacamole, mince and vegetables ontop of a garden salad - fairly simple, cheap and incredibly delicious. Sonia was very impressed by the meal but I could tell it was probably a bit to much work for her but maybe she could make just the salad or guacamole. We talked late into the night again, drank English tea and tried to come up with a plan for me and my stay here in Buenos Aires.
