After the best nights sleep ever we set off on our journey back to Lukla. Our guide Lahkpa felt it was better to give us a shorter walk today as tomorrow is busier transferring over to the Annapurna region and then 2/3hrs trekking. The spaniards were up and off early as they are on the way up the mountain towards Namche Bazaar.
It is a steady long climb back up to Lukla passing many little villages with tea houses. The weather is changing and it is cloudy and cooler so we can no longer see the mountains.
It is Saturday and life seems a bit quieter on our trek with less animal traffic.
We stopped half way for tea ( I've become addicted to the fresh ginger and honey which I'm hoping is helping my cold!).
We arrived at Lukla in time for late lunch ..... Soup , toastie, salad and apple washed down with tea. Meals seem to have a pattern of more western lunches and more Nepalese in the evenings.
Lukla was very cloudy and foggy on our arrival and we were informed there are no flights back to Kathmandu today !!!! Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow otherwise it's a day in Lukla.
We visited a normal tea house this afternoon called Mera Lodge where many people stay. We now understand why our accommodation is considered luxury ...... Ordinary tea houses are just beds with no linen and you have to use outside communal toilets and showers. Everything from glasses of hot water to food and WIFI is extra ..... About 500 Nepalese rupees per night.
We had a wander around Lukla .... A bustling little town with everything you could want including as Starbucks and Irish pubs presumably for the Trekkers and tourists. Lahkpa said that the town gets very stressful when flights are cancelled and people are trying to get international flights.
Tonight Lovely rum punch and dinner ready for our 5.30 breakfast and 6.45 flight back to Kathmandu.
It really does feel like winter is on its way ..... The weather has really changed since we arrived.
