Nice leisurely start to the day. Our tour guide picked us up from our hotel at 0930 and our first stop was the old capital city of bapthaphur. We had to go cross country a bit as the queues for fuel are getting worse and blocking some roads up. We were in a four wheel drive which helped as the roads here and around Kathmandu are incredibly potholed!!!
Bapthaphur was quite badly hit by the earthquake and all looks a bit sad with Aid tents still in situ and lots of buildings still in ruin. There were a few tourists but not many and we were very much prayed on by sellers. It seems there are many years if work ahead to restore this heritage site. We were not allowed into the sacred Hindu temple where over 1000 animals are sacrificed annually during a festival in sept/oct.
We then went onto the famous cemetery in Kathmandu and watched human pyres being burnt ...... With the hospice next door and holy man asking for 100rupees for a photo. It was very interesting in a morbid kind of way ....
We ended our tour at the famous white stupa which is a both Buddhist and Hindu monument and again badly affected by the earthquake ..... Lots of building work going on and tourist shops surrounding the square.
We came back to the hotel freshened up before heading back into town( took nearly an hour due to queues etc) and had dinner at Le Sherpa a nice restaurant with our guide. Can't describe what chaos the fuel crisis is causing.
By the time we arrived back at our hotel there was some music and dancing going on ...... We had a glass of wine before heading off to bed!
Home tomorrow!!!! Xxxx
