Day 8 Time to leave Hong Kong Island and move to Shatin which means cramming all our stuff and some, into luggage for checkout. I suggest we explore east on the tram and go to the last terminus Shek Kei Wan. I didn't know that a "hot weather warning" was out, ie. 33c. We use the complimentary shuttle bus for the first time to Time Square before boarding the ting ting. Yes it's hot and steamy and crowded as ever! We get off at the last stop and follow the pink tourist signs for The Coastal Defence Museum as I assure my fellow travellers that there will be decent air con there. I'm not permitted to stop at any temples, poke about the shipyards or go near the fish market. The heat is stiffling and then horror, the museum is spotted perched up high on a hillside. Fortunately there is a lift, free wifi and very efficient aircon inside. I'm left to wander the exhibits alone learning more about the Japanese occupation, brave escapes, harsh rationings and social conditions, forced alliance with the Chinese and how the bombing of Hiroshima ended it.
MTR back to Causeway Bay, then taxi direct to The Regal Riverside Hotel so we don't have to lug our suitcases for a moment outside. Phew.
Our new hotel has some bonuses; room with a view over the river and pool but no fridge, no easy free wifi, no robes, no English speaking Hollywood tv films and a bit shabbier. The lobby and restaurants are sparkling. Dad meets us for dinner; a super buffet in L'Eau Restaurant; plenty of seafood, Japanese style, bbq meats, roast beef, curries, salads, noodle, desserts allsorts inc. choc fountain, icecreams, mini everything. We are stuffed.
Back to reality, we checkout a 24 hr diy launderette but only open 21.00-0700 for diy plus it's a bus and train journey away! I'll just have to get some more Armani boxers for Kai @£5 for 3.
