Day 21
Our last day :(
There are more sporty looking types with paddles in the lobby this morning.
Lunch is at dad's favourite/local restaurant. We said light lunch please, as we are having a final dinner buffet tonight. Several steamed dim sum dishes appear including sesame buns, fish balls and chocolate cake. Su-Yin and I head to Fa Yuen Street on the light railway and East Railway. So much quicker, if only we could work out exactly which is north when we exit the station. I'm bringing a compass next time. My favourite map is now in 4 pieces. We see so much stuff we didn't see before, but we're on a 2 hour mission with shopping lists in our hand. The heat is really oppressive but it's not going to slow us down. Su-Yin thinks we'll have better luck at Temple Street with bartering but it's only16.00 and they're only just setting up. Quick stop for sugar/caffeine/cool down/wifi in MaccyD's before heading back to Ladie's Market - 1 hour to go. First stop; LV trolley bag, more Mulberry fold over bags, Links of London friendship bracelets, Paul Smith boxers, Chinese Lego, Chinese Tshirts, more clothes for S-Y, more lighters for Kai.
Dinner is booked for 18.30 so we do well to get back, have a quick shower and head down.
A sea of red enter L'eau Restaurant. It is team China and they all look quite young with an average height of about 7' !! There are a couple of Norwegians but I think they must be the coaches. An Asian University team also enter. People are still swimming outside as the pool is open till 21.00 from July onwards.
How relaxed. You can eat outside in your swimsuit and kaftan and drift in for food or help yourself from the BBQ on the terrace. Much to our amusement, a Chinese guest with 2 female companions has set up a tripod. He takes picture of each course and of himself presenting a gift to his wife (?), and of her with the gift of a gold necklace. Genius. Dad laughs and says if you want a picture, you just ask someone on the next table. Su-Yin and Kai have been asked many times. Some people are going to be disappointed with treasured holiday snaps of themselves with chopped off feet and heads. Best use the tripod and self timer.
The lights dim, there's a fanfare, the bellboy starts ringing his bell and walking about (they do that in the lobby when the shuttle bus is about to leave) and then the Star Wars theme breaks out. Perhaps Team China won a gold medal today? I can see 2 chef hats moving around. I investigate. A huge Baked Alaska is ablaze on a wheeled trolley. How funny.
