Portugal with the Carvalho/Markas
So I can't let Julie have ALL the fun! I can't believe we are actually here. People are so friendly, even when you are driving the wrong way down a one way street!
We have had fun driving through the countryside. Obidos is awesome, and we are right on the beach at Nazare. The whole country reminds me so much of California: no wonder so many Portuguese have settled there.
But I have ONE BIG COMPLAINT in this trip. Everywhere we go, when I hand someone a credit card or a passport or a reservation, they start talking to me in Portuguese!!!! Then when I tell them I don't speak Portuguese (with a name like Carvalho), they laugh at me. I'm going to go as Mrs. Yingling next time.

Tim Carvalho Had the same thing happen on our Pilgrimage, but also had a hard time getting them to give me the food I wanted, until I insisted I was raised Portuguese.
Tim Carvalho Hope you get to Braga. The climb up the steps is fantastic as is the Church and the Statue off to the left side of the Altar.
Patricia Gomes Schager This is so exciting...I'm so glad you are doing the blog for us to follow. I almost feel like I'm along. Thank you so much.
