We have arrived! The flight from Newark to Lisbon was only 5 hours, 55 min. Plenty of turbulence, but we arrived earlier than planned.
Upon arriving, Margaret Ann was thoroughly questioned by the Passport Check guy. The rest of us got through just fine :)
We picked up our rental car, a spacious black BMW, and headed north! We stopped by the walled city of Óbidos, climbing steep steps to the top of the wall, which you can walk all around on! The old castle of Óbidos is now a fancy hotel. We did some shopping (couldn't resist), and had lunch. Lunch was various forms of "toasts"-basically toasted sandwiches. Julie also had a fresh banana milkshake!
Next stop was the Cistercian Monastery of Santa Maria in Alcobaça. This is also the sight of Pedro and Inês' tombs (kind of like Portuguese Romeo and Juliet...only gore-ier).
Finally, we have settled into our digs in Nazaré at Hotel Mar Bravo. The rooms are airy and clean, and we are just a crosswalk away from the beach. For now, rest time followed by dinner and wandering around.
Thanks for stopping by! Oh! Almost forgot-mom (Corri) fell in mud. She's fine.
Pictures (a few) uploaded!
