Corri: Julie let me go first this time! We had a relaxing day in this beautiful beach town. After a wonderful breakfast (that included eggs; usually our eggs have come at dinner on top of red meat...), we walked to one of the beaches here. I would tell you to look at the pictures, but I haven't downloaded those yet. (I did add some older pictures, though.) It was a clear, warm (by Minnesota standards) day, and the scenery was spectacular. We did some walking around old town (I'll let Julie tell you about her boots), and nice lunch and then came back to our hotel. It wasn't long, though, before Julie and I got bored, so we took off to find Marinha beach. Spectacular scenery! I thought it looked like the Grand Canyon with an ocean. It's one of the top 10 beaches in Europe for good reason. On our way home, we saw a sign for Carvalho Beach; we're going to try to find that tomorrow. I think while we were gone, Margaret Ann had a man in her room because we found an extra key that wouldn't work in our door, but she swears she didn't....The jury is still out on that one.
Julie: I found a great pair of boots for 10€! They are great because they survived the hike at Praia Marinha. I had lamb stew for dinner and I think it was the best meal I've had so far. Andy had pork steak and enjoyed it. I knew Praia Marinha would be the beach of my dreams when we saw three cute kittens guarding the area! I also made friends with French people there. We went to a mercado today and bought linguica from the deli meat area. Haven't tried it yet.
Andy: I'm eating well on this trip! The trip is feeding my desire for learning. history. There's an interesting divide in demographics in the countryside...meaning an abundance of old people. It's been 6 days since my last cigarette, and seeing all the people here smoking doesn't help! But my trusty patches are getting me through. I find it easier to say "merci" or "thank you" rather than try to figure "obrigado/a". Café Americano is NOT American coffee. No, this is not my first trip to Europe. I miss my kitties and fam in MN. My feet are sandy. I'm having a good time. The cataplana that Corri and I split on night one was my favorite meal so far. The king prawns were delicious! I've seen a lot of Securitas signs, but only one Securitas employee. The hotels are nice!
