Since I can't recount every single day I figured I would hit on the main points of my week.
I realized that I can't be eating all this amazing Italian food and not even working out to combat all the calories. Even though I'm walking more than I ever did in my life, I missed running! So I put on my gymshoes, looked at a map and walked to the park by my house and started to go. It was awesome! I would have to say that running at my farm house in wisconsin is pretty amazing, but this definitely was up to par. There was this huge lake with all these turtles, and I entered a different area than I had before and since the park is so big I got to see a completely different area. I felt so inspired as I was listening to my music and running haha. There were so many other runners too, I was surprised because I don't see italians as people who like to work out. Most of them are already naturally skinny. It was hard though because I was mainly going uphill but as I looped around I went downhill so it got better. I decided I definitely have to go back which I did.
One of the days during the week I was tired of just going home after class or just going to the grocery store and then going home and I heard some of the girls were going shopping so I decided to join in. Two of them ended up splitting off and going to the jewish ghetto and then me, trista, jenna, elyse and emily decided to roam around trastevere. I had only been around that area once, but it was at night so I didn't see much. It was soooo cute! All the little restaurants and random shops were so cool. We saw this one house that had these beautiful vines running all over it and it reminded me of being in the country. We found this little shop where this guy did original paintings and I had to get one since it's so hard to find original work because all the vendors sell cheap prints. Then we found this store that went all the way into the basement where this lady made all her own jewlery! There were ceramics, glass they were all so pretty. I got some earrings that had stone that were different colors. After that we went through random little shops but it was a great experience and I definitely can't wait to go back. We decided we should go back and eat there sometime because the restaurants were so cute!
On thursday it was Italian republic day! yahoooo. Basically that meant that all the stores were closed down and they had this huuuuge parade going through the center of rome. It also meant we didn't have classes . So most of us wanted to check out a beach while we were here so edgar agreed to take us to the beach 30 min outside of rome on that day. The photo for this blog is of the beach. It was sooooo hard to get there! I thought it would be one 30 min train ride and then we were there, but no. We took a tram to the ministry, then a bus to the train station, then the 30 min train to the coast, then ANOTHER bus to the actual beach. But at last, we made it and it was awesome. I was so happy to be on a beach again after the crappy spring weather we had in michigan/chicago. A few of us played volleyball and then I layed out for awhile and went in the tyrrenhian sea a couple times, which felt awesome! Edgar told us not to go back into the sand dunes and walk around because sometimes there are prostitutes in there. yikes. We stayed there for awhile until 5 and then went home because we had to get ready for the concert some of us were going to that night....TIESTOOOOO! and we had to pack for tuscany because we were leaving the next day at 7 AMMMMM. very stressful.
So we all got home, I was exhausted, turned out I burnt my face to a crisp (i put on sunscreen!) so I started chugging water because even though I was feeling almost sun poisened I was determined to go to this concert, I had paid money for it! After chugging around 5 water bottles I was feeling right again, so i packed and then got ready and then met up with everyone to go to the concert. The concert was amazing, for those of you who don't know, tiesto is probably the most famous electronic musician of all time. It was in this huuuuuge concert hall in an area I couldn't tell you where because we basically just followed everyone else that got on the bus and was shouting about tiesto haha. On the bus, we learned that he wasn't going to come on stage until 3 AM. I was really worried because we obviously wouldn't be able to see him since we had to wake up at 6 am. But we went anyways, and he ended up coming on stage around 12 and we left around 1:30 so it was definitely worth it. I can't believe I got to see a concert in Rome! Overall, it was a very tiring but awesome day. I got home, passed out for 3 hours and then had to wake up and leave for my trip to Tuscany! All in all, it was very worth it.
